My travel companion broke her ankle on the hotel stairs on our first evening and our tour guide was absolutely wonderful. We could not have managed without her.

Considering what happened and I could only participate in 2 days of the tour it was good. Missed the Colisium and Vatican City.

This was my second Collette tour, and I came home very exhilarated, but exhausted. It was a very active itinerary, perhaps more than they suggested, as most travelers were around my age, 50-70. Lots of walking on very uneven terrain and inclines, as they warned. Our hotel was absolutely fantastic and in a central old Roman area with lots of great restaurants within blocks. Breakfast was terrific..eggs, pastries, fresh fruit, meats, cheeses, cereal, juices, lots of coffee and tea. Our buses were excellent, large and comfy. Guides and drivers were top notch. It was billed as a tour of about 30 , so of course that limits some flexibility, but everything on the stated tour was visited. I was a solo traveler but never felt like the odd one out. There were only two drawbacks= the large group dinners which couldn't possibly be gourmet but certainly delivered the variety of classic Roman dishes intended. The most unpleasant aspect was Alitalia airlines. Very inefficient and lacking any customer care. It made the Rome airport, Fiumicino, a nightmare of swarms of passengers arriving in walls of disarray. Wish someone else flies there, but beware that Delta is a partner with Alitalia so you get none of Delta's positives and all of Alitalia's staff and equipment. To finish, I would happily do another Collette tour, and want to say their stateside staff in RI was always fantastic and very responsive.
