Fun and carefree touring

I have enjoyed Collette tours for almost 15 years now and have always had the best service from the person in the office I talk to, to the Tour Manager on the tour. They do everything they can to make sure your trip is fun and carefree.

The most memorable experience on this tour was actually when our TM walked us, on his night off, to a restaurant a little ways from the hotel. We were on our own that night for dinner but he so graciously made sure we got to the restaurant and even had dinner with us.

Nice highlights of London but too much time was spent on the bus. We always felt rushed when we stopped at the sights. The hotel was lovely. The show we saw at the west end was sophomoric and a waste of time.

I didn't care for the Fleet buses used for transfer to and from Dulles. None had onboard toilets, which for a two hour drive can become a problem for older travelers. Also I found out that after inquiring about vacancies--but not purchasing a ticket--for an optional tour, I was somehow signed up for it and had a charge placed on my credit card. Fortunately I decided to take the tour, and that is when I discovered the mistake.

The Xmas markets were disappointing. I've been to better markets right here in Pennsylvania. My favorite part of the tour was the optional trip to Windsor Castle. The reason that I gave the tour 3 stars is that we seemed to spend too much time at many places and not enough at others. For example, Blenheim palace had a pointless Alice in Wonderland exhibit. I could have done without it. Oxford demanded more time. A tour of the university should be included.

Lots of walking put us close to so many sites - much better than being on a bus all the time. I loved Westminster Abbey, Windsor Castle, London Eye, boat tour up the Thames River, trip to Oxford, excellent theater production of Juliette, dining with the tour group.

I changed my mind multiple times about how long I was staying etc but yet Colette made it happen for me. They were friendly and I love traveling with Colette

I loved seeing the items on the tour except I hated Harrods. The crowd at harrods gave Me anxiety. But seeing the castle and palaces was amazing. And the food place Colette took us too were amazing! I loved the hotel as well with very clean rooms and friendly staff.

This is the 3rd or 4th Collette tour with a known group. They were very responsive when my husband and I rather book our own airfare for seating purposes due to medical needs. They understood our concerns and assisted us in refunding the appropriate amount back to our card. As far as the entire tour,,,no faults at all and will book again.

The service were wonderful from booking the tour and the tour itself. The staffs were always very helpful and courteous. Especially our Tour Manager Susan Ore, she was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive to our needs. Our driver was amazing also, very courteous and accommodating.

Having been on previous Collette trips I was disappointed that several issues arose. Transportation from the airport & hotel & vive versa. The driver that picked us up at the airport was late & unclear about the hotel’s location. During our ride he contacted another driver about our drop off point. When we were dropped off he didn’t know where the hotel was, which was behind another building. When he was asked he simply shrugged & waved us off indicating it’s some2here across the street. If the driver’s employer hadn’t come out, we would have continued walking up & down the street in the rain. On our return trip there was a luggage mix up. Two passengers riding with me asked about their luggage. The luggage was found because passengers in another van sent me a text; unfortunately our driver was not very helpful. The advertised excursions to Harrods & Oxford were disappointing. There was not enough time in the schedule. Our Harrods visit was cancelled so we could make our Windsor Castle appointment. Our day at Oxford was not worth the long ride because many places were closed to allow for student interviews which normally takes place in December.

My favorite experience was High Tea at Harrods. Since our original visit to Harrods was cancelled, I went there on my free day.

The trip was very nice. Staying in one hotel and then taking tours was good because we had a base of operation. A couple of visits could have been better timed.

We were left to get to other places on our own. Some of the directions given for the tube were inaccurate. I thought we would be visiting the places on the list, not just seeing them on the bus. I changed my plans to visit Kensington Palace because my husband was unsure if he could get back to the theater area alone. Unfortunately there was an emergency at the other museum, and we didn’t get in because we had to leave for the show. Since we already had tickets for Tuesday at the Tower of London, we skipped the trip to Oxford on Monday to go back to the Churchill War Room which our guide said was better than the Imperial War Room. When the Churchill War Room option was taken off, we assumed it was closed so that’s why the Imperial War Room was added. We had to pay the entrance fee ourselves to visit the Churchill War Room while the entrance fee for Kensington Palace was included in the price of your tour. The Imperial War Room doesn’t charge a fee. How is that fair to pay for one place, but not the other?

I expected to visit some places in London, not just drive by them. We were left on our own to get on the tube to travel to other places. Sometimes the directions were inaccurate. The Churchill War Room was changed to the Imperial War Room, but out tour director said that the Churchill War Room was much better. We paid our own entrance fee even though the Kensington Palace fee was included in the cost of the tour. We thought it was changed because the Churchill War Room was closed. The Imperial War Room doesn’t charge a fee. I changed my plans because my husband was unsure about getting to the theater on his own because of the poor directions that we experienced the day before.

Lovely hotel and great location. But did not enjoy being handed off from the tour manager to various guides. It made tipping complicated and it felt less personal. We usually had a prerecorded audio in the buildings.

Kensington palace was the best. Loved Oxford and Blenheim palace. Did not like the food tour at all. Would have preferred a tour of Windsor palace instead. Bath was nice but short. No time to really explore the shops. The Harrods stop was too short to do anything other than find restrooms. The best thing Collette did was rebook our return flight. WE were on our way to Boston when the power went out in the airport. Before we had landed and got the news, Collette has already booked us a flight for the rest of the journey. I saw the mass of travelers struggling to make other arrangements. For this reason, we will always travel with you. Thank you to Collette!

The group was too large. Some days itinerary was too full, not allowing enough time at the venue. The group had to be divided because venue could not accommodate the entire group. Of all the “show” possibilities in Londonat the time Collett’s choice was not best fit for our group.

I would definitely recommend them. David Beaumont and Brit where amazing guides. They made sure we had an opportunity of a lifetime....to see the Queen and family on the official birthday and the Trooping of Colours. It was a jammed packed holiday, with good food (enjoyed the walking tour from Spitilfields Market....great food, good fun!) All the high spots, Blenhiem Palace, Kensington Palace Gardens, Bath, Oxford were very nice to see. Dinner at Ffiona's was great, but not sure worth the hour's drive back to hotel after a long day.

Overall, an excellent tour. The tour guide and bus driver were outstanding. The choice of theater show (Thriller) was a bit disappointing, but the performers were very good. The walking food tour was fun, but, 1st course was somewhat disappointing because of skimpy quantity and no offer to have wine or anything other than water. 2nd course was very good, but did not appreciate that we had to stand on the curb instead of going into the restaurant. Courses 3, 4 & 5 were very good.

A little of this, a little if that!

Well organized and full of information! It was much more walking than I had anticipated but it was all good! The hotel as stayed at was old and some rooms weren’t adequate. We had to move to another room as did several other couples. There are nicer hotels, such as the Gloucester Millenium, where I usually stay and where we spent an extra night after this tour was over.

I enjoyed the walking food trip , which gave us a taste of different foods and beverages! I was disappointed for my husband that we didn’t get to visit the Tower of London and some other venues. I have been to London several times before but he had never been. We will have to go back and organize our own London experience to actually see some of the sights we rode past.

Don’t expect to be picked up in a timely manner.

They were well aware of our arrival time at LHR airport though failed to meet us planned. We had to call the main office on two different occasions before we were picked up, having to wait almos two hours. We were first told that the male driver was stuck in traffic and we should expect him to arrive in twenty minutes. He must have been receiving a sex change at the time because the driver that actually picked us up was a female. She arrived about forty five or so minutes later and shortly after our second call. We had to track her down even though we were standing at the prearranged location. She was very unfriendly, and said no more than five words during the hour long drive to the hotel.

The Friday, or last full day was great as we went out on our own. London’s Christmas markets are really lacking when compared to those in Germany, France, Switzerland and Hungary. The food at the pub on the first night, the welcome dinner was terrible though the location and staff were great. The final dinner was one of the best we had while traveling with Collette, our five trip. The hotel staff were very friendly, helpful and caring as well as accommodating. The hotel itself was old and one of the worst we have had while with Collette.

The hostess for the tour was well informed, and very approachable. She handled all unforeseen issues with grace, and certainly tried to help all concerned as best she could. I found the local guides to be exceptional, and they certainly knew their history!!! Our out of London day trips were conducted, and our bus driver, although from Poland, certainly knew how to handle the British motorways. Our hotel was centrally located and very close to the "tube" system. The hotel staff were certainly friendly and very helpful. It was a bonus that we were able to stay in the same hotel for the whole vacation! The only thing that I saw as a possible negative, was the fact the folks on the trip were not offered instructions on how to use the subway system in London. It is very convenient and I am sure on the free time that we were given, people could have ventured out to see more of London.

There were several memorable experiences. I really enjoyed the "pub night", when we were able to sample several different kinds of meat pies and beers. I also enjoyed our time walking around Kennsington Palace and Windsor Castle. Our guide in Oxford was very knowledgeable, and for all of us who are "Frost" and "Endeavour" fans his noting of particular filming areas was great.

The only issue I have come across is that you advertise this tour being "seven" days. But, it actually is not seven days. We fly during the night to Europe. That is NOT the first day of the tour. Then, you count the last day, which we had to leave at 8 am to airport, as the seventh day of the tour. My issue is with the "First day". This tour was more of a "Five DAY" experience.

The tour we took was wonderful. I can't complain about being in London no matter what, but Collette went above and beyond for me and my daughter. I am disabled and they made arrangements for me so that I could enjoy the trip also, and that was greatly appreciated. I can't say enough about how great everything was, and I'd definitely travel with Collette again.

Air and transfer to the hotel were perfect. The hotel is in a great location near The Tower of London and access to The Tube. Since The Tower of London is the number one visitor spot (and no bus is needed), it should be included as part of the tour package. We had a small group which made restroom access easier (no long lines). The tour guide was calm and in control and very personable. My only issue is that when we were with local guides, or when it was the last day for the bus driver, she didn't really say, "This is the last time you'll see the driver" or "Thank the tour guide". Those who haven't traveled much didn't tip. Other than that, it was wonderful. We lucked out with the weather -- upper 80's in April!!

Christmas in London is amazing! The holiday atmosphere is everywhere... The decorations are beautiful, the shopping excellent, and the food fun and festive! Highlights of this trip were Windsor Castle, Blenheim Palace, the London Eye, Herrods, and a wonderful visit to Oxford. I could do this trip every year and love every minute of it!

Great start, but want more depth.

I enjoyed seeing many different places and sites, but it would have been better had we taken inside tours of these places, like Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Parliament, Tower Bridge, Salisbury Cathedral spire tour, Tower of London, etc. Just seeing the outside wasn't enough and traveling all around the city again to get inside some of these places was just too much on our free time. The hotel was in a great location. I could have done without the Globe Theater visit. It also would have been nice on our first night as a group to take some time for a brief introduction of everybody in the group.

I loved being able to tour inside Windsor Castle. It would have been nice to have tours of Parliament, Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, etc also included, or offered as options.

So much history and so little time

A great overview of London, It was our first time to the British Isles. We stayed near the Tower of London, Our hotel room looked out over a section of the Roman wall built around 43 AD. The tour manager was knowledgeable and interesting. The overview of the city left a great impression. The traffic was congested, I loved the visit to Stonehenge and to Windsor Castle. Seeing buildings 700 years old and an original Magna Carta memorable. So much history and so little time, but a great adventure.

I have taken many 'Spotlight' tours because they meet my needs and interests as a widow travelling by myself. Having airport limo service is a great benefit for me. Yes i would recommend them and I am scheduled for another Spotlight tour next month.

The group was too large (42) for a Spotlight tour. My previous tours had 24 or less. Although she was pleasant our tour guide had us rushing everywhere and wasn't as organized as she should be nor had good communication skills. My previous guides were excellent so this experience was not typical. Visiting Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and riding the London Eye were great highlights of the tour.

It was a wonderful tour and I enjoyed it. Although there was a tour guide who got on our bus and she was really very snippy to us with her remarks, she was not pleasant. Overall tour was wonderful, Hotel was fantastic and our everyday guide was very pleasant.
Tour

I really didn't have a favorite experience on the tour but I loved seeing London Tower and the museums on my own.
