Experts in Africa for Three Decades

We’ve been the leader in guided travel since 1918. And we’ve been curating safari adventures in Africa since 1993. Spanning these decades are rich relationships and expert designers and guides who live in the region. The result: access to experiences you’d be hard-pressed to find on your own.
    A Different Safari By Design

    A Different Safari By Design

No two days on safari should feel the same. That’s why the experts at Collette carefully curate each tour to offer variety at every level — in wildlife encounters, handpicked accommodations, and the moments in between that reveal a destination. The result is a safari filled with unforgettable moments and fresh perspectives, rather than a one-note experience from start to finish.

    Deeper Cultural Connection

    Deeper Cultural Connection

Visit a market in Victoria Falls. Dine in a Cape Town home. Meet with a craftsperson at a gallery in Lake Eyasi. It's these meaningful local connections — cultivated over decades by our team on the ground — that take you beyond the sights and into the heart of each destination.

    Travel with Meaning

    Travel with Meaning

Go beyond observing to understanding. At Collette, our expert designers and Tour Managers are locals who are passionate about the destinations they call home. That's why they go the extra mile to introduce you to the people preserving local traditions and shaping the future of the places you visit. From responsible travel initiatives to Impact Moments, every journey uncovers the stories that bring a destination to life.

    Stay in the Experience

    Stay in the Experience

A great safari doesn't end when the game drive does. That's why we select accommodations that feel like a natural extension of the destination itself — from intimate tented camps to character-rich lodges in prime wildlife-viewing locations. Safe, comfortable, and deeply connected to their surroundings, these stays are part of the experience.

    African Safaris FAQs

On game reserves and in national parks, visitors should wear neutral colors such as brown, khaki, and beige. Avoid wearing blue as Tstetse flies are attracted to that color. Camouflage patterns should be avoided as only the military wear this.

Game drives tend to last about 3 hours — more if game viewing is good; less if the weather conditions are extreme. Vehicles are open-sided 4x4 safari vehicles. Note that specific vehicles will vary by tour.

Accommodations vary from standard hotels to lodges, tented camps, and even safari boats. These different stays mean different experiences, but they are all carefully selected to get you close to the action.

When you stay outdoors, you may find small creatures like geckos sharing your space.

These things will always be true:

    • You’ll always have immediate access to a private bathroom.

    • Internet access and air conditioning may be available, but are not guaranteed.

    • Electricity is widely available, but can be disrupted. If you require use of a CPAP or breathing support overnight, we strongly recommend a different tour.

Specific vehicles vary across each park and region, but you can count on 4x4 vehicles with pop-up roofs and/or open sides. With six, eight, or at most ten people in a vehicle, travelers are always in a prime position for viewing wildlife.

Yes—each tour has unique size and weight limits for luggage. African Safari: Kenya & Tanzania and The Plains of Africa require travelers to use a soft-sided duffel with a maximum weight of 33 lbs/15 kg. An additional small personal bag is permitted. Duffels with rollers are not recommended because space is extremely limited on safari vehicles and bags need to be flexible to fit.

For other Africa tours, most bags should be under 50 lbs/23 kg and less than 62 in/157 cm total when length, width, and height are added together. Be sure to check your pre-tour travel documents for specific requirements.

We recommend bringing your own universal plug adapter and voltage converter, or appliances that have built-in voltage converters. Common plugs in this region are C, M, D, G, and N.

Most lodges have access to laundry services. Clothing is typically sent out for service and returned the next day, so plan to do it on the first day of a two-night (or longer) stay. All laundry services are payable directly to the lodge.

Most lodges and camps provide mosquito nets. When they are not provided, the property often uses repellents, unless they are unnecessary in city locations.

Travelers are encouraged to discuss antimalarial medication with their medical professional, wear protective clothing at night, and bring repellent that contains up to 30% DEET.

Every Collette safari experience is capped at a maximum of 18 travelers.

All Collette safari group tours are curated and led by locals, which means your trip to be filled with immersive regional experiences. This includes meals shared with locals in their homes, excursions to local markets where you'll talk with merchants, visits to hidden gems that only only insiders know about, and Impact Moments designed to uplift the communities and protect the places we explore.
