The activity level for this tour:
You’re a leisurely traveler. You like to discover the energy of a new place, but typically take it easy. You can handle at least one flight of stairs, board a coach, and walk for 15-30 minutes at a time with little difficulty.
You like a balanced approach to travel. You feel confident walking at least 30-45 minutes at a time over a variety of terrains – from cobblestones streets to easy straightaways to a couple hills or flights of stairs. You’re comfortable walking a few city blocks at a time, but need some time to unwind and relax.
You’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (1-2 hours) isn’t a big deal. You can navigate hills and uneven ground, climb into various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.), and could possibly anticipate changes in elevation. You can expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure.
You’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and hiking are things you may enjoy) and few thousand steps a day isn’t out of the norm. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 90 minutes), traversing dusty or uneven terrain, standing for periods of time, varying altitudes and temperatures, and don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late-night experiences, and full days. Unfortunately, this level is not appropriate for individuals who use wheelchairs or walkers.

TourDid not think this tour was the usual Collette experience we had many years ago. The ship was fair, we upgraded the cabin and it should be called deluxe NOT Suite by any means, it was not.

TourWe were not happy to sit on hard back chairs from 9AM till 3PM when we were taken to the ship in a not so hospitality room where we were given only sweets to eat, after spending the night on a plane. the gardens were spectular and in full bloom. The food was great.

TourThere was so many interesting facts about the Netherlands and their "water" management over the centuries. Of course the tulips were amazing as expected. I felt rushed in Ghent, Antwerp and Bruges. We did not have enough free time to have a beer and fries, as the tour guides kept suggesting. I am not a big shopper, but it felt like you had to choose between shopping, going to the toilet or getting some local pastry or snack. It had become a hassle getting Euros in coin form for tipping the driver and the local guides. Many places don't take anything but credit cards, so there wasn't anywhere to get change for a 5 Euro or more. We were told they would take dollars, but this tour had seperate bus drivers and local guides everyday and sometimes 2 different sets in one day. This could be clarified in the documents so that people would understand that they needed a lot of one dollar bills, as the exchange places don't issue coins.

TourToo much time spent in the ship’s restaurant. The lunch and dinner meals each took about 2 hours. We thought we were on a trip to see Belgium and The Netherlands, not the inside of a restaurant.

TourThis was my first river cruise and I was very impressed with everything. Food was wonderful with great vegetarian options. Room adequate. Ship very nice. Liked that it was small. Communication excellent. Loved how the tour ended on the last day with the windmills and the tulips. Bruges was lovely. Could have used more time there.

TourThe Amadeus Brilliant was wonderful, everything about it! Staff was excellent, food was delicious. The excursions in Holland and Belgium were very interesting, with very good guides. I so enjoyed our visit to Keukenhof Gardens.

TourCollette representatives were rude and made us feel unfordable. It seemed like we were a burden to them on every occasion. There also was an obvious issue between the ships crew and the Collette reps. We saw several arguments between Collette and ship employees. From the first day Collette didn’t follow the schedule that they sent us in our black book. We were in Amsterdam 2 days before departure staying in the hotel Collette arranged which was dirty and our view from the only window was a brick wall. Collette didn’t pick us up at the designated time nor made any attempt to contact us or the hotel. We were forced to take a taxi. We Explained the situation when we got on the ship to the Collette representatives and they just blew it off and they said we would be reimbursed for the cab which never happened. They never apologized or explained why we were not picked up at the time that they told us to be in the hotel lobby. We waited over an hour before asking a representative from the hotel what they suggested us to do. The hotel called the taxi. That was just the beginning of a horrible trip. Every guest I spoke to had similar feelings about Collette and their treatment of all of us. I’m sure you have received many negative responses from other customers about the trip. Several people said they would be contacting Collette expressing their mistreatment and writing letters.

TourThe Tour Managers & City Tour Guides made it a wonderful experience overall. It was so fast paced that I'm still trying to process all of it. I would love to do it again so I could absorb more of it. The amount of walking from the tour coaches to the destinations or back and forth to the hotel was difficult. The lines to check in and get through security at the Amsterdam airport took over 3 hours. that was a bad ending to a glorious trip.

TourAll aspects of the tour were rushed, and it was because EVERY meal was expected on the ship. Very, VERY little free time. Service on board the ship was OUTSTANDING. We are aware of a mold problem in the hot tub of the suites (yew!).

TourWas not organized well. To much walking for a group of seniors several with canes. First night entertainment did not happen. Last day on ship much to long, a morning excursion back to ship for lunch then two afternoon excursions one was an add on then back to the ship for a late dinner. To much for the before we were to fly home. The people at the desk on ship not very helpful but our food servers and cabin persons were outstanding.

TourThis was my first river cruise and have nothing to compare to. Food was outstanding on ship. Schedule seemed a little hectic. Floriade was somewhat, not disappointing, but again not sure what to expect, but expected it to be complete.

I would rather a buffet, like breakfast, rather then sitting waiting on food. Not the servers fault; kitchen just appeared slow to get food out.

TourI had a great time except for the land tour in Brugge. The guide went too fast, it was 2 hours in stead of 1 and we had to ask him to take us back to the meeting place. The guide from the boat did give us an extra 30 minutes for shopping. Thanks

TourI fell within the first hour of being on the ship and broke my nose. It was taken care of by medical person on ship. Of course no knew my nose was broken. I suggest that you advise your guests in advance of the step leading into the bathroom. The floor was raised about 2 inches and I either missed the step or caught my toe on it. When I hit the floor, my face hit the shower step. I really don’t remember exactly how it happened. I would suggest being sure guests are made aware of that step.

TourOur jetted tub had black particles coming from them. Could not be fixed. Two engineers and the hotel manager viewed it. Our tour guide instructed us to contact you upon arrival at home. We did, however nothing has been resolved. We ask for compensation of $1800 the next down grade. Also a refund for an excursion has not been refunded. I feel all of this should have already been taken care of.

ServiceThe arrival was very poorly planned. Sitting in the bar of the ship for 8 hours was a big waste of my time. Also selecting flights that leave very early in the mornings didn’t make for an enjoyable start and departure. Timing of tours didn’t leave enough time for shopping or revisiting the area. Instead on moderate walking, it should have been listed as a lot of walking. Bed sank in at middle and door didn’t lock. I had to go to the front numerous times about the door. The exercise room didn’t have heavy weights. Worst trip I ever took.

Throughout the whole cruise there was only one guide that was a little dificult to understand and would not listen to any requests. TourWe covered a lot of territory in the short time of the cruise. The towns in Belgium were wonderful and we had enough free time as well as tour time. We were going for the tulips and unfortunately it was the only rainy day we had. The tulip fields were headed the day before but we still thoroughly enjoyed. the Keukenhof gardens. The windmill tour was great as was the guide. Her ancestors were millers so our tour was very personalized. The Delta City Works was also a great tour. It was very fascilnating. We were glad that we spent 2 days in Amsterdam before the cruise began. We would encourage anyone taking this tour to take advantage of a few days in Amsterdam. It was an inviting city.

A Perfect Trip to a New Culture

ServiceBased on our experience with a Collette tour, I could certainly recommend them to others. Two pre-trip planning/informational meetings answered many of our questions. Since we chose to go a day earlier than the rest of the group, Collette arranged for lodging and transport from the airport. All aspects of the trip (sites visited, tour managers, tour guides, river/canal cruise boat, airline arrangements) were top drawer. The booklet provided that detailed flight, cruise line, daily itinerary, local weather projections, travel tips was an excellent guide. We particularly appreciated the primer on tipping. Any time we called Collette, a human being answered the phone and patiently answered our questions.

TourIt is difficult to pinpoint a favorite memorable experience, but I would have to say it's the people we encountered: fellow travelers, Collette employees, riverboat crew, and, of course, the locals we rubbed elbows with in The Netherlands and Belgium.

TourThis was our first river cruise and we were well pleased with our experience. The accommodations and staff were beyond our expectations. The variety in the excursions was nice. Of course our favorites were Keukenhof Gardens and Kinderdijk with the windmills. We were pleasantly surprised with the Deltaworks Project and the history and engineering. The only thing I would like would be one more day in Amsterdam with an optional tour of Anne Frank house and the Van Gogh Museum.

ServiceOur tour guides/managers were terrific. Bobby and Sylvia. They cared and TOOK care of all of us. They had a sense of humor....which is so important. We thought our meals were excellent and we bonded with our table mates.....2 other couples traveling alone. The crew was very thoughtful.......and they had a good sense of humor too. We also enjoyed all the guides for the various ports and trips. We learned so much.

ServiceCollette and Joe Mahalchik were excellent. Leuftner cruise line was average. The ship needs to be updated, they needed more staff in the dining room. Had to wait a long time to be served if you were the last table. Didn't like the fact that you couldn't get a soft drink at lunch, when other river cruise lines do. So, would order the unsweetened iced tea, took a while at lunch to get it. Asked the server for a slice of lemon for my tea and was told they would have to ask the chef if they had any???? Then served a lunch with a wedge of lemon and never came back to bring me a lemon or address it with me for my iced tea.

ServiceThe first day of the trip was handled poorly. As our room on the ship wasn't ready till the afternoon, we should have had city tour and lunch somewhere to kill time rather than sitting on the boat. At least on the bus, the exhausted one could have napped comfortably and the ship wouldn't have us under foot. I will definitely think about another Collette trip as this one was not all it could have been.

ServiceThe boat tour was if you had never done one before. The timing was off, the best experiences had the shortest time, we waited needlessly many times, one was waiting till be could get to our rooms on board, waiting for buses to arrive, waiting, waiting, waiting. The tour guides were average, have had much better on many other tours. The Collette tour leaders were not even responsible for the counts of participants getting to and from the tours. If it hadn't been for the representative from the boat to give us information there wouldn't have been any.

TourThe boat was OK but needed to be upgraded. The beds and chairs had holes in them where you would sink in. Not acceptable. The best places were the windmills and Brudges and we only spent a few hours in each. More time spent in towns with nothing to see.

ServiceFrom Collette I signed on for what turned out to be a lovely cruise on Dutch and Belgian waterways that featured exciting excursions each day. Highlights were seeing the area of19 working windmills built 1600's-1700's (and touring one) as well as our visit to Keukenhof Gardens and the acres and acres of Tulips. I enjoy traveling on Leuftner Amadeus ships and definitely will sign on for another Collette trip using them. I highly recommend Collette--they tend to everything and any interaction I have had with them from the Rhode Island headquarters (including their insurance folks) down to the tour guides has always been 1st rate.

Arriving at a River boat early morning and not being able to get to a cabin until late afternoon could be handled differently with possibly a tour of the city and /or area. People are tired and need something to occupy them.

ServiceI have used Collette for years without an issue. We would call and their people talked to us and everything went as planned. This time I called for Tulip cruise. First I was told I could use their web site or one of their 3rd party planners. I tried the web site and it was nice but it wouldn't work with flight. I had to call back. Person who helped was nice. She had to send my over to the air department. That person was nice and after a while we were done. A few months before trip Collette poc called to tell us they were moving us from Newark to JFK. We were not happy but we weren't given any choices. Night before trip we tried to print boarding passes. No luck. Called Collette and after a long time on the phone their poc told us she couldn't help and I had to call Delta. I called Delta and had to wait 2 hours for a person worried that we didn't have a flight. They finally came on and saved the day. When Collette changed airports that did not create new tickets. In the end, the airport change also stopped Collette from picking us up because it was 11 miles over their limit. It cost us $200 for tolls and parking.

TourThe Amadeus Queen ship was wonderful. The place was very clean. The entire staff were amazing. They were friendly, professional and made you feel welcomed every day. Good at all place was great. Full bar with daily specials were fun. Beer and wine with dinner was a lovely touch. The planned trips were incredible. One better then the next. It was our first river cruise but won't be the last. We are already looking at other Amadeus cruises. Their people, ships and tours are each 5 stars.

ServiceOur airport and flight has been changed from Newark to JFK which Newark takes 40 minutes, JFK takes 1 hour and 45 minutes. The tolls were considerably more. All the times we traveled with Collette we never been transported to the airport. Collette may have saved money but at a great cost to us when you consider the tolls and parking which mounts to over $200 a trip. Collette also didn't reissue the airline tickets and we found out when trying to get e-tickets which took over 3 hours on the phone to include an hour with Collette (Collette couldn't help us) to get it reconciled with the airline. Very frustrating.

The tours were interesting, the view as we travelled were beautiful, and food was great, and getting to know the others on the tour was interesting. A very good time. The two tour guides on board were great and helped solve any problems.

ServiceWe did this trip as our first River cruise and enjoyed it immensely. We had trouble getting to the ship because if weather delays. Collette was in touch with us all throughout that time monitoring our where abouts. Our guide personally met us at the airport to make sure we got to the cruise on time! The vessel's crew was great on service and were very Attentative! The food was really great.

The Collette guides were not bad but the Cruise Director on the ship was very nice but had a heavy Romanian accent that was hard to understand.

TourOur tour manager was Boryana. She was good. She was competent, but as is the case with many Central Europeans, very serious, and more focused on tasks. Jane Pritchett was the Tour Manager for the other half of the 87 person tour group, and she was outstanding--personable, upbeat, very helpful, positive, kind, caring, genuine. Both did their jobs well, we just preferred Jane's style. The ship was amazing, and the staff was great. We would definitely like to ravel on that cruise line again. The tour inclusions were very good. We liked the places we visited. There was a lovely balance of walking, standing, and riding. Great daily guides, very informative. We liked the tours and then the free time to do a few things on our own. The trip was great from start to end! Collette went out of their way to make it possible for four of us to visit the Airborne Museum in Arnhem. Only one person booked and paid before the tour left the US, and Collette not only honored their commitment to take the trip with one or more people, they paid the costs for all of us to go there. My father was a pilot that dropped the paratroopers on Sept. 17 for Operation Market Garden which the museum in Arnhem commemorates. It was very important for my husband and me to get there, and we are very impressed and grateful that Collette made that possible. Thank you.

The cruise line reserves the right to charge a supplemental fuel charge. Should this charge be incurred, you will be notified in advance.
To complete your tour, we include roundtrip airport-to-hotel transfers when purchasing our airfare with your tour. If you have arranged for your own air, we are pleased to provide you the option of purchasing these transfers. Please note that all transfers will leave at pre-scheduled times.
Triple and child accommodations are not available.
Smart casual wear is recommended throughout the trip. For the welcome and farewell dinners, a dinner dress for the ladies and jacket and tie for the gentlemen is recommended. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended throughout the tour.
Ports of call are subject to change based on pier availability and weather conditions.
Embarkation on day 2 is after 4:00 p.m.; on day 9, disembarkation is normally at 9:00 a.m.
Coffee or tea is included with all meals. Wine, beer and soft drinks are included with every dinner.
Gratuities for cabin stewards, bus boys and waitstaff on board the ship are not included and are at your discretion.
Effective for travel in 2024, all visitors who do not need a visa to enter Europe will be expected to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver, for a fee, when visiting a Schengen Area Country. To identify Schengen Area Countries and to complete the ETIAS application, please visit https://www.etiasvisa.com/
Cabins are available on lower (Hadyn), middle (Strauss) and upper (Mozart) decks. Please note that river cruises are smaller ships and only have a finite number of each cabin category available. Specific categories are available on a first come first served basis. Every effort will be made to accommodate your cabin choice at time of booking; however, if that cabin category is no longer available, the closest available category will be offered. Please inquire through our Client Care Center for any upgrade fees which will apply for different cabin categories.
Suites (Amadeus Suites) and singles are very limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
The overall activity level of this tour is a level 2. This means you like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can partake in a two-hour leisurely walking tour, covering up to two miles (with included breaks). You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. There may be 1 to 2 days on this tour when walking tours can cover 3 to 4 miles over uneven terrain. Expect some full days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet. While this level is appropriate for travelers that require mobility assistance devices, there could be times when you may have to sit out on some of the included activities. During the walking tour in Bruges, expect to navigate through cobblestone streets and uneven grounds. You should be prepared to stand for longer periods at a time.
