The overall activity level of this tour is a level 3. This means walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal for you. You can navigate hills and uneven ground, climb into various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.), and could possibly anticipate changes in elevation. Walking four miles over a course of a day is very doable as is climbing 3 flights of stairs. You can handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. You can expect some full days balanced with free-time. This level is not a fit for travelers that require mobility assistance devices. This program includes several early-morning departures and full day transfers. In particular, on the day you travel from Istanbul to Canakkale, you will depart the hotel in Istanbul at 7:30 a.m. to beat the city’s legendary traffic and travel a distance of over 210 miles (340 km). Additional longest driving days you will experience on this tour are when you will drive 205 miles (325 km) from Çanakkale to Izmir and from Daylan to Konya when you will drive a distance of 346 miles (557 km).
Some of the most unique sightseeing can mean accessing locations that restrict motor coaches, especially in historic areas such as Istanbul’s Golden Horn district, the town of Dalyan and the archeological sites of Pergamon, Ephesus, Pamukkale, and Kaunos. In particular, the sightseeing in Istanbul requires a minimum of 2 miles (3.2 km) of walking per day. You will be walking over cobblestoned streets with narrow sidewalks, at times uphill. The archeological sites of Pergamon, Ephesus, Kaunos and in Cappadocia, your itinerary includes many activities that require walking on uneven, unpaved terrain, often with loose stones. Visiting sites such as the Underground City and the Göreme Open-Air Museum require climbing and descending steep staircases and/or ramps with limited to no help from handrails. Some of these visits may not be suitable for people who suffer from claustrophobia. Agility is required for boarding the boats for your included tours. For your comfort, we recommend bringing sturdy walking shoes. If you require a walker or wheelchair, or have difficulty walking, you will not be able to access some of these areas and may want to consider an alternate program with us. Our Client Care Agents can provide additional information or assistance to help you determine the perfect trip for you.
