World Cuisine Through the Eyes of Our CEO

900x500 CEO Blog 082418 001

In this month's installment of our CEO on the Go blog series, we're talking to our CEO, Dan Sullivan, Jr., about his favorite foods from around the globe. After a lifetime of travel and enjoying so many intriguing dishes, which cuisines will he choose? Read on to find out!

What are your favorite foods from around the world?

I've been traveling all of my life and I can honestly say that there is something special about the cuisine in every destination. It's a tough decision, but if I have to choose I would say that it's a tie between Italy and France.

Tell us more about the cuisine in these two countries

Dining in Provence at some of the greatest restaurants in the world and enjoying great French cuisine is something everyone should experience. The French are very particular about the dining atmosphere, ambiance and the food. I find this to be particularly true in Provence where you find fresh dishes like grilled Niçoise tuna steaks, bouillabaisse and the most incredible goat cheese you've ever had.

Italian food is just spectacular. The food in Italy is all locally sourced, so depending on your location, you'll enjoy something from that specific region. Everything from pasta shapes to olives and everything in between will be different. Look for risotto in Milan, traditional carbonara in Rome, Pizza in Naples and Campania, cannoli in Sicily, and Limoncello on the Amalfi Coast. Try it all.

What does food tell us about a destination?

You can tell a lot about a place from its food. Food is a great way to connect with the cultures of the world. The family restaurants, the old-world recipes, the flavors that vary by region - the food tells its own story. No matter where you travel, I encourage you to eat like a local. It's something we can all use to relate to one another and from there, we can start to create those important connections between cultures to discover that we are not so different after all.
