Whether you’re from the mountains, the prairies, or the oceans white with foam, take a little time to plan your next trip to any of these beer-loving cities in honor of National American Beer Day.

Seattle, WA

A pilgrimage site for coffee and wine lovers, Seattle also houses several beer makers including Fremont Brewing—which serves unlimited amounts of free pretzels and apples in its beer garden. Come join us in the “Emerald City” for our Pacific Northwest & California Tour and get to know your fellow travelers over a beer at our welcome dinner.

Portland, OR

While on our tour of the Pacific Northwest, feel free stop by any of Portland’s seventy-two breweries. It’s only fitting that the city that begs to be “kept weird,” would have some of the country’s most inventive breweries. Among these charmingly peculiar breweries is the Hopworks Urban Brewery and Bar which is powered solely by customers on stationary bikes. If you’d rather enjoy your beer at a more leisurely pace, you can also check out the world famous Widmer Brother Brewing, Pyramid, and Bridgeport Brewing companies. With so many brews to choose from it’s no wonder beer enthusiasts have dubbed Portland “Beervana.”

Portland, ME

Not to be confused with the “other Portland,” this seaside city in southern Maine immortalized in many Stephen King novels, boasts some of the finest beer selections on the east coast—including the perennial favorites, Shipyard and Allagash Brewing Companies. Care for a beer by the sea? Then sign up today for our Roaming Coastal Maine tour!

Pittsburgh, PA

Though the city contains only twenty-four breweries, there are more than thirty bars per every 100,000 residents in the Steel City. While in town, be sure to check out the Beer Market, Smokin’ Joe’s Saloon, or The Beerhive. You can drop by any of these saloons when you join our Washington, D.C., Niagara Falls & New York City trip.

Cincinnati, OH

In both 2019 and 2020, Cincinnati, Ohio was mathematically proven to be the best city in America for beer drinkers with ten breweries per 100,000 residents. Try checking out Urban Artifact, which operates out of the historic St. Patrick’s Church or perhaps catch a show at the Bircus Brewing Company, founded by Paul Miller a working clown with Ringling Bros.!

Kansas City, MO

In the immortal words of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Kansas City has gone just about as far as they can go when it comes to beer—especially, if you like a little BBQ with your beer. For over thirty years, Boulevard Brewing Company has become one of the largest craft brewers in the country. Meanwhile, you can enjoy an Arts & Crafts festival with your craft brew at the Screenland Theatre!

Boston, MA

Fun fact, the nation’s earliest brewery emerged in Boston not long after the Pilgrims first landed on Plymouth Rock and since then, the city has gone on to become the home of several renowned bars and breweries. Among these many breweries is the Boston Beer Company owned, Sam Adams, one of the country’s most instantly recognizable beer brands.

You can get the full Boston experience when you join our Spotlight on Boston tour. On Day 5, you can stop by Beacon Hill and grab a beer at Cheers—yes, THAT Cheers. Fair warning however, Sam, Diane, and Carla will not be there to serve you. But who knows? Maybe Norm, Cliff, and Frasier will pop in?

Denver, CO

While known for great outdoor activities, Denver has quickly become a prime spot for beer lovers. Home to famous brands like Coors, Denver is also home to Wynkoop, the city’s first craft brewery founded in 1988 by future governor of the state, John Hickenlooper. If you’re in the area around this time of year, be sure to hop on over to the Great American Beer Festival, an international exposition featuring some of the finest brews around.

Enjoy all Denver has to offer and see some of our nation’s most beautiful landscapes when you join our America’s National Parks & Denver tour.

Spokane, WA

Famous for its stunning vistas and incredible food scene, Spokane has also become a major hotspot for beer and wine enthusiasts. With over thirty-five breweries and twenty wineries and tasting rooms, you can tour this beautiful city while gorging on some of the best eats you’ll ever have.

Philadelphia, PA

Having nearly triple the number of breweries compared to the number of delegates at the Constitutional Convention, this historic city is home to some of America’s oldest and finest bars and breweries. McGillin’s Olde Ale House has been serving the city since 1860, while the nearby Sly Fox Brewhouse & Eatery has been a leader in local brewing since the great Philly barley rush of the 1990s. The city also hosts Philly Beer Week and the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Beer Festival for those wishing to sample the full breadth of the city’s storied beer collection. Sadly for my fellow It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans, there is no Paddy’s Pub and (perhaps, fortunately) Mac, Sweet Dee, Dennis, Charlie, and Frank won’t be able to join us.

Be sure to see all this historic city has to offer as you jump into the pages of American history on our Heritage of America tour
