In the last year, trips that connected travelers with the great outdoors and wonders of nature were some of the most popular. According to a report from the World Travel & Tourism Council, that is set to remain a trend for 2022.
Both the WTTC report and the Expedia report said they expect travelers will continue gravitating to some beachy locales. In terms of domestic outdoor spots, Expedia reports that places like Orlando, Panama City, and Maui are top-searched destinations in the U.S. right now. While domestic outdoor trips are hot, there are also plenty of international destinations that celebrate nature that continue to be top performers. Along the lines of the beach destination, Costa Rica remains a top seller for us and across the industry for 2022, as does a destination with a cold, volcanic sand beach: Iceland!
The WTTC Trending in Travel report has some fascinating findings about outdoor travel in 2022:
· 70 % of travelers in the U.S. and more than 75% of European travelers are planning on visiting an outdoor destination in 2022
· 52% of travelers say they are more likely to take an outdoor trip now than they were prior to the pandemic
· 47% of polled travelers want to experience nature on their next trip
