Lisbon extension was not great. Tours on day one and two overlapped the same places. The time in Belem was chaotic and guide suggested that we not try to go in monuments. Would have been nice to have tickets to monastery instead of shuffled past and bought a pastry on the street . We don’t need a guide to buy us 1 euro tart and plop us in a chair to sit and people watch! Lastly we were left in front of the Belem Tower and told to find our own way back to hotel because the guide had an appointment.

We were a family of 13 ranging in ages from 10 to 78 in celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary. The tour included many great sites, experiences and lots of food that appealed to all ages along with enough free time to explore on our own. Our tour director, Juan Kratzmaier, was phenomenal! He was so fun and had a great sense of humor as well as being informative. He went out of his way to interact with the kids, suggested and implemented activities for them during the free time. The Azores are a hidden gem with breathtaking landscapes and lots of cultural activities.

We really enjoyed this tour (except the heat in Lisbon) and our Tour Director, Juan was wonderful..really attuned to our needs. I loved the vineyards in Pico. I also loved the tour to Obidos, Mafra, and Ereceira.

The vista overlooks were amazing. We especially enjoyed the brunch home tour in Faial and the traditional volcanic meal cooked underground. The meals and hotels provided were all excellent. Would have loved more time exploring Lisbon!

This tour was exceptional and I selected it because of the location, activities, and Collette's reputation. I received so much more. I highly recommend taking the 2 optional tours offered because these are very unique and indicative of the area and culture. My most favorite evening was the second home hosted dinner where we were warmly greeted and welcomed being allowed to explore the back yard while meats were grilled and wine served then indoors for tapas, more wine, dessert, and codials plus a video of the bull running celebration. It was like being with family. The food walking tour in Lisbon was terrific as well as the Sulphur Springs at the botanical garden; both included in the tour. Last but not least, the tour manager was exceptional, putting his heart and soul into each day to have it be special for everyone. He gladly wore many hats and pitched in at restaurants so we could have an easy, flowing experience. Joao held the tour together with his organizational ability.

Henrique was an excellent tour guide and the tour was amazing! We were very happy with all of the experiences that were included with the tour and even the 2 optional ones as this gave us experiences that we would have never seen for ourselves. We had a great group of travelers in our group and Henrique went above and beyond to ensure that everyone could enjoy his country. Would definitely recommend this tour and Henriquie as a tour guide.

Collette arranged 2 dinners at local homes where we could truly experience the culture of the Azores. We could not have done this on our own. We travelled with a small group and stayed at wonderful accommodations on 3 different islands and Lisbon. We enjoyed the scenery, food, and people of this beautiful country.

This tour has been the most exotic scenery, much history was learned! A culture that has survived with the past, has learned to be self sufficient from the world. From Happy Cows to lava vineyards, from mountains to the ocean, from colorful roadways to volcanic tunnels. The hot springs and pools to cooking inside the earth all just amazing. The best milk, cheese I have ever eaten. The array of fish (fresh) abundant. Azorean plneapple, banana a must to eat! I recommend this tour to anyone who appreciates the survival mode of people, loves exploring the land and sea as well as eating unusual and organic foods and great wine!

Diverse tour with historical and visual awe inspiring experiences. Great pace of visiting 3 different Azores islands then mainland Lisbon, each offering their unique aspects or the journey. A must take trip with a local guide who can share the significance you just could not get doing it on your own.

The beauty of each island is enhanced by the warmth of the residents. Each island is unique and it is difficult to choose a favorite experience. Sao Miguel - driving around the crater rim and seeing the lakes from two sides, Joao Andrade the basket weaver, the Gin Library. Terceira - the view of the green patchwork, wandering the streets of Angra, descending into Algar do Carvao, Faial - walking the marina and seeing the murals and watching one being painted, climbing the hill to the chapel, hearing the church bells outside the hotel. Pico - staying at Aldeia da Fonte, walking into town, and seeing parts of the Holy Spirit celebration. Lisbon - learning about the history and art scattered around town. The meals the group had together were delicious and always a good time made possible by the bonds that were formed thanks to José, our tour manager.

I love experiential trips rather than visiting museums and art galleries. Surprisingly this trip fell squarely in that category. The exquisite beauty of nature was on full display in the Azores. The wind which was continuous and the intermittent rain framed this very adventurous experience. The sound and sight of the pounding of the surf on the rocks outside our rooms at the last hotel was one of the highlights of a trip. The bucolic craters of extinct volcanos that dotted the islands were a photographer’s paradise. The group of travelers were mentally all up for the adventures we encountered. There varied life experiences and perspectives added to the educational value of the trip. It was also wonderful to encounter people living in the Azores who loved Americans. I recommend strongly that you emphasis that this is a very active trip. It is to Ben’s credit that everyone encountered the sights and sounds of the Azores safely.
