Whilst just about any month is great to visit Greece, there are a few prime times of year worth considering. Here’s what to expect, according to our destination experts.
Winter: Wintertime in Greece is the ideal season for avoiding crowds, and the weather is quite mild, averaging 40-50°F (4-10°C) most days. Picturesque Arachova, a charming ski town, attracts travellers to its slopes during the winter months (December through March). Even on the coldest days, temperatures rarely dip below freezing.
Spring: This is the best time of year to see green landscapes and blossoming flowers carpeting Greece, especially near the breathtaking Meteora monasteries. Crowds start to pick up in April and even more in May as the summer tourist season approaches. The weather is mild and enjoyable, averaging 50-60°F (10-15°C) in most places on the tour, whilst locations like Arachova and Kalambaka may be slightly cooler.
Fall: Whilst September is still peak tourism season, by mid- to late October, it starts to wind down and sites become less crowded. A sky full of sunshine but without the summer heat makes this a wonderful time of year to explore mainland Greece. The weather is mild and can be windy, but it is usually still sunny, with temperatures averaging 60-70°F (16-21°C) most days.

Choice on Tour: Nafplio Walking Tour or Mycenae Archeological Tour
Today you have the choice between 2 activities. Your first option is to visit ancient Mycenae, an archaic city once ruled by mythological King Agamemnon, commander-in-chief of the Greeks during the Trojan War. Explore the excavations during a guided visit featuring the Beehive Tombs and the Lion Gate. Your second choice is to linger in Nafplio, and join a walking tour of Greece’s first capital city. During your tour, enjoy views of the island fortress of Bourtzi, which the Venetians fortified in the 17th century to protect the town’s harbor. Nafplio’s mix of Venetian and Neo-classical architectural influences make it Greece’s most elegant city.

What can I say, this was my first international trip with Collette Tours. It was well organized, and I had no fears traveling abroad. My only concern was that a traveler contacted covid and could not isolate as per protocols due the to the extent of our touring travel. This was a concern of as we were all senior citizens with preexisting medical conditions. Thankfully I was boosted a month prior to travel. I'm not sure anyone go ill after returning home.

Overall the trips was wonderful. We visited many places I probably would never have seen had I traveled on my own. Our tour guide Theo was very knowledgeable and personable. The bus driver really knew how to handle that big bus on those narrow winding roads! My only issue came when we were booked to stay at the Castle hotel in Nafplia.. The hotel was not well kept. The lobby was hot and the furniture worn and dirty. Some of the rooms were not clean at all! Mold, dirty carpets and brown water coming out of the faucet. The manager of the hotel never apologized for the conditions of the place. We found reviews of this hotel that went back to 2018 - the sames problems we found existed then. So it appears Collette should have known about this place and never put us there.

This Classical Greece tour met every expectation that I had. I thought the food and local food tour were the best, especially the welcome dinner in Athens with the music and dancing! I also loved all the cultural and historical excursions and wish the local guides had done more hiking with us (they usually left us so we could climb higher or just have free time). Meteora was fabulous, as well as Delphi and Olympia. My only regret is not being able to see the National Archeological Museum. That should be part of this tour! I did mention this to our tour director but she was not able to make this happen. I wish that I had studied more mythology before the trip! My husband and I also loved the dancing lesson. I think the cooking class could be improved, we had such a large group in a small space and it did not involve teaching us how to cook the entire meal. Only two people performed the prep and mixing. I was wondering why we were scheduled to stay in Nafplio but ended up staying in Tolo?!
We had no walking tour in Nafphlio but had plenty of time to have one. I did a walking tour with my Rick Steeves handbook. This would be a good idea for Collette to do in these situations.
