Fado: the perfect blend of voice and guitar. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Cultural Patrimony, it is a celebrated form of world music that captures what it is to be Portuguese. The word Fado comes from the Latin word "fatum," which means fate or destiny. It is a style of music that is about deep feelings: the disappointments of love, the ups and downs of life. No one knows quite how Fado first came into being, but to this day, Portugal's traditional music remains at the very heart of the country's culture. In one of Lisbon’s most popular Fado restaurants, professional performers entertain you while you enjoy a typical Portuguese three-course dinner with wine included.

Behind to do other things like shopping etc. He gave us a time and meeting place to resume our tour. This gave some people time to relax, visit a restaurant ,He wanted everyone to be happy and comfortable.

Spain has an amazing history. Through this tour I was able to see first hand the Roman ruins, Moorish, Christian and Jewish cultural heritages. The Cathedrals were impressive. Ronda was breathtaking. That is just one of the many experiences we were able to experience. Sintra in Portugal was magical.

From start to finish our trip was the best. We saw more, and did more than I ever could have imagined. We experienced the character of each town and city we stayed in. Rita, our EXCELLENT tour guide shared her overwhelming wealth of knowledge with us. At the end of each day I was tired but had a smile on my face from a wonderfully planned day. This was my second Collette tour and I have already booked another for the fall. Collette does everything right.

Fernando was the best guide my husband and I have had on any of our trips and we have been fortunate enough to travel to many countries. He went out of his way to make everyone in our group (24 of us) feel special. He was very timely and made sure our group saw the most and did the most at every location. I would love to travel with Fernando again! The itinerary was very good and busy. The hotels were wonderful, especially in Malaga, Cordoba and Sevilla.

Our Tour Manager shared much history about the areas we were visiting. He was always willing to assist with any problems or issues the travelers might have, and he sent emails to everyone with a synopsis of the next day's schedule and included news articles and music about the places we had just seen or that we would be visiting. We experienced local culture by visiting an olive farm where the owner explained the process of growing olives, creating olive oil, and how the oil is judged. We were able to sample two of their olive oils and had a lovely lunch at the farm. We also learned about Pastel de Nata, the famous Portuguese pastry, and sampled some on a tour in Lisbon. The local tour guides were excellent and were able to take us to very interesting places. For example, we arrived the day after Easter and in Malaga we visited a building which housed pasos, or floats that were paraded throughout an area in Malaga with statues of Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary the previous week. The history was fascinating. It was enjoyable, educational, and well worth it.

We enjoyed the Picasso Museum, particularly with our tour guide Isabela. She explained a lot of how Picasso's art related to the women in his life, and his family. We liked visiting the Holy Week Floats with Father Rafael and his descriptions of the parade. We loved each meal and restaurant we went to - a suggestion would be to let the people know how many courses there will be. We didn't realize how many courses there were, ate too much in the beginning and left not enough room to enjoy the later courses. We especially enjoyed the home meal with Pilar and Miguel. Delicious food and gave us an experience in a native Spanish home. The Mezquita Cathedral was one of my highlights, I can't remember the name of our guide, but she was excellent! Miguel Angelo was an excellent guide on our walking tour of Sevilla. I also enjoyed the flamenco lesson, although my husband was not crazy about that. We liked the trolley ride in Lisbon - much better than walking all those hills.
Our tour guide Regina was an amazing guide. She was very knowledgeable, extremely helpful when with helping us find a boat cruise in Sevilla, helping us understand how the history of the region affected the architecture and surrounding culture. George, our bus driver was also excellent. He maneuvered the bus through some very tight quarters. He was always smiling, cheerful, and helpful. We also enjoyed seeing Sintra and the Regaleira Gardens.
It was a wonderful trip, and we loved the adventures and extra details. Thank you very much!

Didn’t appreciate the narrow streets and the cobblestone streets. Hard to get around because of the traffic and pedestrians. Too much walking. I have been on other Collette trips and this was very disappointing. The he food was disappointing as well. Hardly any vegetables and potatoes chips were served as a side. We had to take three different planes to get to Spain and me and two others traveling with me didn’t get our luggage. I was forced to sleep in my clothes that first night. Couldn’t go out the next day because I didn’t have the proper shoes for walking. I had to wait until the afternoon to get my luggage. We should have had a direct flight from Atlanta to Spain. Long day and last leg we had only a 2 hour layover so we had to hustle. This might be my last trip with Collette. I signed up for a trip in October to Croatia but I am canceling. The Fado dinner was not worth $120.00. Recommend Collette discontinues this excustion. Again very disappointing. Breakfasts were the only good meals. Streets were too narrow for bus to get near hotels so we had to drag our carry on thru the streets. Most of us are seniors so they should have made it easier for us. What the heck!!!!!!!
