Outside major cities, small shops and family-run businesses may close for a few hours in the afternoon, typically between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. Collette plans around local schedules, so this down time becomes part of the experience instead of an inconvenience.
Regions across Spain each have distinct cultural identities shaped by their own histories, traditions, and cuisines - from flamenco in Andalusia to Gaudí’s architecture in Barcelona, Galician seafood traditions in the northwest, and Valencia’s famous paella along the Mediterranean coast. For a week-long trip, it’s often best to focus on just one region or a smaller part of the country — such as Andalusia or the Rioja and northern coast — to experience the culture more deeply without rushing through those differences.
Spain’s climate varies depending on where you travel. Andalusia and central Spain have very hot summers and comfortable winters. Northern regions tend to be cooler and greener, and coastal areas are milder year-round.

I was born in Lisbon, and travel has always been part of who I am. I’ve explored more than 55 countries. With over 20 years in the tourism industry — spanning operations, pricing, marketing, and management — my true passion lies in tour design. Since 2022, I’ve led tour design at Collette for this region, focusing on crafting and continuously improving meaningful travel experiences that connect deeply with local cultures.

I live near Lisbon and have been guiding tours across Spain and Portugal since 2002. My local knowledge, storyteller’s soul, and traveler’s heart help me bring Iberia to life in a way that’s both personal and profound. As a native Spanish speaker who is fluent in Portuguese, English, French, and Italian, I enjoy connecting with people in many languages.

The pilgrimage was very spiritual. In the cities of Fatima and Lourdes, we were able attend Masses and rosaries regularly The accommodations that were B+ were Brugos and Barcelona. I could not get Wifi in Fatima especially when I had some medical issues. The tour director was very informative and maintained punctuality.

This is a wonderful tour. It does live up to its name. There is a constant barrage of opportunities to try different food and wines. In between all that is the ambiance of old world architecture, history, and art. The hotels are extremely good. The motor coach is very comfortable. The main roads are excellent, and the drives are relatively short. Our guide, Jose, was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and entertaining. It is a very active tour. There is a lot of walking; much on cobblestone streets with steps and inclines. There is not a lot of free time, except for Salamanca.

Our bus trip going from one country to the next with our co pilgrims and our tour in Fatima and Lourdes the history was unbelievable .My most favorite part was the Rosary and the procession in Lourdes

We enjoyed all the stops; Elvas the least. The high energy flamenco experience was terrific. The restaurant for the welcome dinner was a bit disappointing—all others were great! La Sagrada Familia and Alhambra were highlights. Valencia was a great surprise. Really enjoyed the paella experience. I have 1,026 photos of wonderful places and memories.

It would be impossible to have a favorite…. As much as I loved seeing all the old city centers as well as walled cities, cathedrals and palaces, I really enjoyed meeting and getting to know all the other members in our group! Some were from the US and others from Australia and Korea. The dinners where we were all together are some of my favorite memories!

I very much appreciated the cohesiveness of our group, led by our tour guide Luke. That was a bonus to the travel. Even with some bad weather, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip, the meals, although too much food and too late for me, but i also understand that’s the custom. Definitely would recommend to others.

Home visits with meals & small business visits were the favorites. The bull farm with dinner, olive grove tour with lunch were fabulous as was lunch at a local families home.

There were 22 in our group, 16 associated with a Sun City community and 6 who joined on their own. A very congenial group! Our tour manager, Elena Planas, was top of her class! So prepared each day with information on our stops/tours, all touched by her wonderful humor. She balanced each day with great finesse. Highlights were a dinner with Fado music in Lisbon - and eating pastiche de nata (or Belem...sooo good!); visiting a one-woman olive oil production in a small village in Spain (sooo impressive is she!); Salamanca; bullfighting museum; Douro Valley (stunning!); walking a small bit of the Camino (wonderful guide!) and sharing all of this with our dear friends. A wonderful trip. Shout out to Collette for helping with our return flight - we missed our connection back to the US. Not a problem with Collette!
