Tour Activity Level
The activity level for this tour:
You’re a leisurely traveller. You like to discover the energy of a new place, but typically take it easy. You can handle at least one flight of stairs, board a coach, and walk for 15-30 minutes at a time with little difficulty.
You like a balanced approach to travel. You feel confident walking at least 30-45 minutes at a time over a variety of terrains – from cobblestones streets to easy straightaways to a couple hills or flights of stairs. You’re comfortable walking a few city blocks at a time, but need some time to unwind and relax.
You’re an on-the-go traveller. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (1-2 hours) isn’t a big deal. You can navigate hills and uneven ground, climb into various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.), and could possibly anticipate changes in elevation. You can expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure.
You’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and hiking are things you may enjoy) and few thousand steps a day isn’t out of the norm. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 90 minutes), traversing dusty or uneven terrain, standing for periods of time, varying altitudes and temperatures, and don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late-night experiences, and full days. Unfortunately, this level is not appropriate for individuals who use wheelchairs or walkers.

ServiceOur Tour Director April was amazing - she was very knowledgeable about both Scotland & Ireland - their history - gave a lot of information - she was pleasant to travel with - very helpful - The driver Tommy was sweet - always had his hand out helping everyone off the bus - a great experience - our group enjoyed themselves and we would definitely travel with Collette again.
-
TourI enjoyed all of our trip but I most liked the boat ride on Loch Ness and the visit to the castle - I loved driving though the Highlands seeing the bogs with heather springing out.

-
ServiceYes, overall Colette was good, they planned out a good tour. I felt we were a bit rushed though and there were a couple stops that could have been avoided....time wasters. Our stay in Dublin could have been longer and a hotel in Dublin would have been better, even though where we stayed was nice the point of a tour is to be in the heart of it all. I feel like there is more to see in Dublin that we missed and if we were staying in the city we may have had more time. We were too far out. Our tour manager was very knowledgeable and knew her material but not very personable. She seemed stressed at times, had very little sense of humor and almost treated some people like children. The joke with some is that we needed to hurry up so we don’t get in trouble. Our bus driver was excellent he was a good driver and personable. All hired toured guides were amazing!
-
TourI’m not sure I had a favorite but I was surprised and enjoyed thoroughly the Giants Causeway and found the history in Ireland fascinating. The history of Belfast was amazing. I was disappointed our stay in Dublin was short and the hotel was too far out of the city. Loved Scotland and Inverness was beautiful but the stay there was too short as well.

assurances not honored
-
ServiceWhen a traveler is assured that veggie options are not a problem, and then the only veggie entree available is potato and cabbage at an overpriced optional tour, even two stars are two too many.
-
TourThe included tours were amazing. The optional tours were overpriced and didn't deliver as advertised.
Thank you for traveling with Collette on our Exploring Scotland & Ireland tour. We're very sorry to hear about the issues you experienced with your Vegan meals and with the pricing of the options. Your feedback will be reviewed by the Product Design Team in order to improve the overall touring experience for our guests.

Beautiful countries, enjoyable tour, would highly recommend it to anyone.

ServiceI loved the trip to Scotland and Ireland! The military Tattoo was very enjoyable! Loved seeing all the old castles, enjoyed the Titanic Museum, the scenic drive through the countryside was enough to make you want to go back. Enjoyed all the information given by our wonderful guide, Collette Dennison. She was constantly giving us background information and history along the way. She was so informative, I thought she wS reading it off a script, but when I was sitting close to her, I found that she was not reading at all, just was overflowing with history. Loved seeing the Book of Kell’s at Trinity college in Dublin as well as the tour of the cities of Dublin and Belfast - well all the cities -Edinburgh, Glasgow, etc. It was a very enjoyable tour and I would highly recommend it.

-
ServiceChad Nelson did an outstanding job as our Guide. Overall the places we visited and sites were great. one hotel was definitely not good. The Muthu Royal Hotel in Tyndrum Scotland was very disappointing. Toilets did not work, no hot water, mold in some rooms and very musty smelling.
-
TourVery good. Tattoo in Edinburgh and tour of Buckingham Palace in London.
-
-
The trip was OK.....
-
ServiceNot near as good as the trip I took with them five years ago. It seemed Collette cut costs at every corner they could which made for a less enjoyable trip. The tour guide was knowledgeable and enjoyable. Still a fun trip, but I will certainly look at other companies as well before planning the next one. I couldn't have imagined saying that after my Italy trip five years ago.
-
TourThe group was too large for the accommodations. The driver schedule was limited which fine but than to much travel was scheduled so the stops didn't make sense.

-
ServiceIt was a well thought out itinerary and with a great experienced and knowledgeable tour guide, Marc Postucci. The options were outstanding and there were no disappointments along the way. The hotels were exceptional and the measl didn't disappoint. The coach driver knew his way around and was a talented, professional and pleasant driver. We were very impressed with the trip and felt we received great value. And, The Travel Store, Karen Goodrich, did an excellent job of setting up our trip, airlines and pre trip planning and needs.
-
TourGreat itinerary and experienced and knowledgeable tour guide, Marc Pastucci. We saw more than we expected and never felt rushed or feeling we missed anything portrayed in the travel outline, which was filled with good information.

ServiceFrom the time we booked the trip until the time we returned from the trip, Collette was very easy to deal with. The Collette Compass app is amazing. Our Tour Manager was incredible. Nothing but good things to say and worth noting, this was our first ever tour experience.

Servicevery professional and personable tour guide and driver. from booking to finish, great customer service.
-
Tourwe knew it would be a busy trip; however, there were several places/stops we would have liked to spend more time.
-
-
Good basic tour, but lacking in coach comfort & local flavour.
-
ServiceThe seats on the tour bus were very tight. Poor leg room, no spot for bottle holders. This was my third Colette tour, I thought it the least enjoyable of the three. The tour manager was not local but from the USA. She was very knowledgeable with her history but lacked the knowledge of the flavour of the country & people of Scotland & Ireland.

Servicethe organization was very good price was doable the service to and from airport was great love that the tour guide was ready &greeted us it would be nice if the bus ride could do more stop to take pictures & just take a moment to enjoy the view i was very much looking forward to do the bagpipe excursions that would of been the highlight of the trip family & friend were waiting to see video & pictures of me with bagpipe it was very disappointment that it got cancelled due to overbook i was surprised to hear that cuz i though the oraganization should of planned it better since they have in business so long And i was not at all happy when we did the Scottish nite out food was awful not even okay .....i had the fish & it was not fresh fish meat very dry & tough desert was cheap just jam & somekind of cream i dont know if it was edible for $99 each person that was too much & not worth it my husband & i spent total $200 for that nite the price is too excessive entertainment was a bit boring cuz it was repetitive i understand u have to make money but at least give us a decent dinner it was not what we expected very disappointed we love Howie dinner place everything was excellent i woulkd like to have more time in each city the accomdations was very good & comfortable flight was smooth no hiccups that was good some tour guide has such heavy accent that makes it hard to understand overall experience was good just that Scotish nite out was bad luckily we had beautiful weather
-
Tourthe castle accomdation was not at all a castle experience from what it adevertised so i was a bit disappointed but the hotel was not bad my favorite place would be the derry town, the Maldron hotel was excellent food was great, room was spacious, nice & clean located in the center of town easy to explore
Thank you for traveling with Collette to Scotland & Ireland. We're sorry to hear about the issues you experienced on the Scottish Night Out option and at the Barberstown Castle. Will still use Collette Tours. Guides are very knowledgeable and great.
-
ServiceMost all experiences were great. The only problem I had was when I lost my passport, Collette was concerned that I keep in touch with them when I was stranded in Germany, but gave no suggestions on what I should do.The other problem is if a walking tour could really be handled by a person who may need a cane or transport chair. Yes, I still would recommend Collette Tours to everyone and will be going on one of their tours next year.
-
TourThe whole tour was my faverite memorial experience.

Outstanding Trip!
-
ServiceBest tour guide ever! Same for coach service. Care for the group was very evident right from the start.
-
TourExcellent, caring, and expert tour guide and coach driver. Rated accommodations "good" because of Ballachulish Hotel. Personnel were surly a couple of times. Room heat nearly impossible to regulate. Food not as good as all other venues. Regarding tours: Coach tour guide in Glasgow was very poor. Ronan in Londonderry was the absolute best. The Guinness Storehouse tour was disappointing. We did not get to see actual brewery operations, which we thought we would. Large and loud groups interfered with each other. The tour guide presented very little substantive information on the process. More "ooh and ahh" factoids than anything else. The special event meals were uniformly excellent. Suggestion: Let people know up front that if they purchase all of the options, they will be on the go almost continuously. If they want to do serious shopping or seeing things and meeting people at a more leisurely pace, they will need to pass on an option now and then. It was truly a wonderful trip.

His knowledge about the different cities and towns was always fascinating and very in-depth. He always had handouts for the free times which recommended this to do and places to eat. He and our driver Brian had a real repore and it was one happy family, making for one wonderful trip.

Great tour but badly needed experienced tour manager
-
ServiceThe itinerary and hotels were great. I would have given it 5 stars if we had a tour manager with any experience at all with this tour----disappointed in Collette that he was assigned---just not acceptable. This was our second tour with Collette and will have to think hard about booking a third one after this tour manager experience
-
TourGreat itinerary and hotels but needed experienced tour manager to complement those positives. Tattoo was outstanding, day in Glasgow was a wasted day due to the locale and mix-up with scheduling local guide. Derry train trip was not ho-hum and not worth the time. The rest of the trip was above average.
-
-
The tour guide Jeff was incompentant and ill prepared to conduct the tour.
-
ServiceI am a repeat customer with Collette. I have been on 4 tours with Collette prior to the Exploring Scotland and Ireland tour. The Tour Manager(Jeff) was incompetent. He was ill prepared for the tour. It seems he was called in by Collette at the last minute and his ill preparedness was glaring. Jeff relied on the tour bus driver(Michael) for information on any questions the tourists would ask and/or if/when Jeff gave historical information re Scotland and Ireland, he would read it from a manuscript. His system for seating on the tour bus was confusing and unfair. Jeff permitted at least 10 passengers to choose and keep their seats the entire tour. Also, Jeff never engaged me, or my traveling companion, in conversation. Finally, if this had been my first tour with Colette, it would be my last.
-
TourTour manager was incompetent and I’ll prepared. Places visited, especially in Ireland, were good. Spent too much time in Scottish Highlands. Boring. Glasgow was a very uninteresting stop. Train ride was not scenic as promised.
Thank you for traveling with Collette to Scotland & Ireland. A member of the Guest Relations Team will be reaching out to discuss your feedback.

A Good Way to See Scotland & Ireland
-
ServiceVery happy with the sights and sites we saw. We covered a lot of ground in 12 days. Chad Nelson an excellent guide and tour leader. Some things that could be improved: Not enough time in Glasgow. Less than a day. Bus travel can be tiring; especially for long drives. Moving to a new hotel daily several times coupled with deadlines. Optional evenings seemed to be over-priced; we opted to get out and meet the people in their favorite restaurants/pubs.
-
TourPricing for the tour was very fair. A couple of the hotels, especially Barberstown Castle, were too far from the city or town we were touring. Again, the optional evenings were very expensive. However, we did take advantage of the Dublin lunch and Guinness tour and felt the pricing on that provided good value. Our favorite city was Edinburgh and we purposely arrived there three days before the tour began. We also really liked seeing St. Andrews and the Scottish Highlands, Inverness, Lochness, and were impressed by Belfast, Derry-Londonderry and Dublin. We also scheduled three days in Dublin post-tour and found that a good decision, as well. Tour guides hired for some stops were very good, except for the one in Glasgow. She initially failed to keep track of our group and raced through tour. The others were very entertaining, armed with enlightening stories and history.

-
A tour timed with military precision
-
ServiceAll pretty good except my unanswered email, asking for help booking a fly fishing guide in Edinburgh.
-
TourThe countries are beautiful, the coach and driver, fantastic. Our guide, second to none. If the hotels had been exceptional, I would have rated the tour a 5. Dublin and Derry hotels were located 30 minutes from city center. We could not stroll around the city in our down time. One hotel was at most, 2 stars. The views from our rooms at different hotels included a fire escape, rooftop kitchen vents, a brick wall, railroad tracks with all night trains and a parking lot. The Irish music and dancing at the Folk Park was my favorite event.

We're scheduling another trip.....!
-
ServiceFirst and foremost, our tour guide was excellent. Marc knew the history of the area quite well and was able to answer almost all of the questions asked by the group. Our time In Edinburgh was interesting especially the "vaults" in the old town. The lake boat ride on Loch Ness was very nice, and no, we did not find the monster. Of particular interest to me was the "local guide" in Belfast. Our Irish, Chinese, Buddhist guide was so interesting when he was telling us about "The Troubles" period in Northern Irish History. Walking the wall there was quite an experience. Londonderry was just as interesting. When you go, look for the statue of the two children trying to touch hands, indicating that the children will solve the problems between the Catholics and Protestants. As usual the accommodations were quite excellent, especially Colloden Inn and Spa. I hope they keep this in the future. This experience is interesting for the history education you will get. The food, as usual, is excellent. The haggis is an acquired taste and one not for me. It can be had at most breakfasts and dinners. I usually went for the fish and lamb which are the specialties in all three countries. Breakfast is usually the typical European offerings -- baked beans, ham, sausage, cheese, roasted tomatoes, hot and cold cereals, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juices, excellent breads, etc. You'll always be able to get a good start on the day.

ServiceJust completed the Scotland and Ireland tour. It was a terrific experience. Our guide, Marc, was awesome. Accommodations were really great and never had a less than fantastic meal. The weather cooperated and although on the chilly side we never had a bad day of weather. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
-
TourI love that everything is organized and I don’t have to be considered with any of the details. I just show up and enjoy. It was perfect

The Trip of a Lifetime!
-
ServiceTour was a trip of a lifetime. Chauffeur service from airport was excellent. The meals included in tour price were top notch. Loved the “extra” tours to choose from. Our tour director, Marc Pascucci, was the best. He kept everything running smoothly. Supplied us with additional information about the areas that was so helpful. This was my second Collette tour. Loved it so much, I have already booked my third one!
-
TourA great bargain for the experience. Chose this tour from Collette because they went to both Scotland and Northern Ireland.
-
-
We will use Colette Tours again and again and express the same to family
-
ServiceExcellent tour guide and coach driver. Very knowledge and quick to adapt to weather or client personality traits

-
We so enjoyed our tour with Collette.
-
ServiceThe itinerary was wonderful and the hotels selected were all very nice. We liked how we had some free time and were able to explore and shop and dine on our own some days.

TourSt Andrews and the Titanic Museum

-
Excellent service from start to finish!
-
ServiceAll very well done. I would and have recommended this company.
-
TourMy highlight was the Giants Causeway. Our tour director, **************, was excellent and very knowledgeable.
-
-
Scotland/Ireland tour had interesting sites and good commentary.
-
ServiceAs usual, the tour director, local guides, and bus driver were all pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable The hotels were centrally located and served good food. Howevber, their bell boys just delivered bags to room and left them on floor instead of putting heavy bag up on luggage rack. This makes it difficult for older persons to lift their bags up to a rack or stand, especially after a full day of touring. It may seem a small matter, but hotel service could be much improved by providing this small service. Also, when selecting hotels, it would be helpful if bathrooms were fitted with safety features such as grab bars and bathtubs sides that are lower than ones we had on trip - coulb not climb over sides.
-
TourFavorite was the entertainment at the Irish pub in Dublin on last night of trip Least favorite: my fall in Edinburth hotel room on first night of trip.
-
-
-
ServiceWe had a good time in Scotland and Ireland. The tour drivers were wonderful, especially Brian, who was really terrific. The tour leaders were also very informative. We did not like the way Harry, our tour guide at first, was dismissed. Collette could have certainly treated him better!!!
-
TourNot my generation! I don't know how to attach!

ServiceAll was wonderful except for our flight from Toronto, Canada to Edinburgh, Scotland. We were to fly on Air Canada out of Toronto but we sat for over 4 hours waiting for a mechanical problem to be fixed on the plane. The airline eventually decided it was a no go. The distribution of the hotel and food vouchers was horribly unorganized. They had 200 some people standing for over an hour. We should have sat and then been called up one by one. My husband and I will never fly Air Canada again!
-
TourEdinburgh Military Tatoo at the Edinburgh Castle. It was a fabulous show of bagpipers, bands, and dancers.
-
-
First class, organized and efficient.
-
ServiceOur tour director, ******, made the trip very pleasant and fun! As always, Collette does a great job of selecting hotels, outings, etc. ******** was available for advice and was always attentive to the individuals in the group and also the group as a whole.

Collette's Exploring Scotland and Ireland is well worth your time and money
-
ServiceCollette organized and conducted an outstanding visit to Scotland and Ireland. Our tour manager and driver were superb and went out of their way to make sure we saw and did everything possible.
-
TourI loved seeing Belfast, but the entire tour was excellent.

-
ServiceTour managers did a great job with any special needs. Norman Greene my wife and I would take another tour with if he was the manager.

Servicethis was our fifth tour with Collette. We will go again. I called several time asking questions. I usually got the answers in just a few minutes.
-
TourI enjoy castles and glad when there is enough time to see it all. Would have like to see the castle/abbey in St Andrews but it was not offered.
-
-
-
ServiceWe called about our trip several times to ask questions. If they didn't have the answer they always got back to us. They were always pleasant to talk to.
-
TourGenerally very good. Some tours I thought were lacking. I St Andrew they just dropped us by the golf course which very few seemed interested in. Nobody knew but the castle ruins were just down the street. It might have been nice to drop those interested down there. The local guide in Derry showed us very little but talked a lot about the protestant-catholic tensions in Ireland.

ServiceWe've had the pleasure of using Collette for the past 18 years. We're always in awe of the places they bring us to. The tour guides are helpful in all aspects of our trip! Collette stands behind anything they promise! I cannnot wait for our next adventure! I'd never use another tour group & chance our experience.

-
No worries, not restful, but a trip to remember with great tour guides.
-
ServiceWe did not have to worry about one detail of our trip from the time we left the front door of our home until we returned. Tour guides were amazing and I learned so much about the places we went to. It is not a relaxing holiday but it is an amazing trip for people that want to learn a little more about the world by experiencing it.
-
TourThe only thing that I would say that keeps this trip from being excellent is the limited amount of time we have at our many destinations. In stating this, I also realize that in order to cover the places we saw that this unfortunately, with the time we have to tour, is necessary. Loch Ness boat trip and Edinburgh were my most favourite parts. Northern Ireland was so steeped in history, Titanic was amazing.... it probably would have been easier to ask what was my least favourite ...which was Glasgow but probably only because we were there for such a short time and the City tour was impeded by something going on which closed main streets while we were there.

Tour was great but air lines for travel was only average or less
-
ServiceTour was great, tour guide was wonderful. We thought the Air Canada airlines we were assigned to fly was second rate compared to Delta Airlines. Air Canada had very basic in flight service, no music or movies and uncomfortable connection between Minneapolis and Toronto. We would like to do another Collette tour but we will not fly Air Canada again.

ServiceArrangements were all fine.

TourOur only complaint was our arrival in Edinburgh. Our flight was 15 minutes early and we cleared customs in 45 minutes. When we got to the arrival area and had no idea what to do. The driver said they planned to pick up an hour after scheduled arrival time.

ServicePerfect. Very helpful and knowledgeable.

Tour1. Royal Yacht was an excellent stop. 2. Edinburgh Castle should be included. We went on our own. 3. Giant's Causeway and the tour of Derry and Belfast. 4. Hotels were excellent except for The City Hotel in Derry. Service in restaurant was unacceptable. Waiter lost our tables order and we had a very long wait to be fed. At breakfast, it took forever to get coffee and tea. 5. Ulster American Folk Park was great but we felt we needed more time to see the entire park. 6. The Farewell Dinner and show was definitely not a highlight. The venue was overpacked(at least 6 tour buses). It was difficult to see the show because the waiters decided to collect for the bar orders at that time. They were all standing in our way.
