Tour appeared to have been detoured from original. Listing. We backtracked over same roads several times because of a change in overnight venues. Several destinations were left off because of that. Hotel accommodations for me and my friend were cramped while others in our group boasted of nicer rooms. I hesitate to find fault with accommodations when traveling to other countries as their style may not be reflective of mine.

The dog demo was wonderful. The place with beavers not so much. Our tour guide and driver were great, very informative. All the places we saw were so beautiful, the food was great and the people of Scotland very kind and generous. I also enjoyed the Tatoo, it was the reason I wanted to see Scotland, also that my heritage is 48% Scottish. I walked myself to death but it was worth it. The places we stayed were mostly nice, one hotel didn't have air conditioning and our room was hot. We had a fan but it blew warm air.

The tour was not well planned or executed. The tour manager was fabulous, but what can you do when you’re dealt a crappy hand???? It was obvious Collette had not planned this trip and we back tracked and doubled back so many times and wasted SO MUCH TIME on this trip. At least 2 days out of 11 were complete waste of time on the bus. The accommodations were sketchy, and even though we’ve gotten refunds for them, that doesn’t help when you’re sold a 4-star trip and get a 1 Star accommodation. It was just so obvious that no one put any effort into planning this tour. Would NOT suggest Collette to anyone.

Traveling to the island of Iona. The Abbey was very moving and the remoteness of the island seemed very challenging for both settlers in the remote past as well as current residents.

I loved Inverness, that was my favorite destination of the trip. I would cut the dolphin tour out of the trip and maybe spend that time in Oban then move onto the next destination. There was not enough time for Culloden, didn't have time to explore everything and felt rushed. Also, the Urquhart Castle was very rushed. We basically ran through taking pictures in order to make it back to the bus in time. Ian was a fantastic tour guide! I thoroughly enjoyed talking with him and learning about Scotland.

This tour was full of experiences that I don’t think I would’ve been able to find on my own. Our Tour Manager, Amber, was so competent, caring and fun! My favorite experience was visiting Iona Island and the meditative peace I was able to find there—closely followed by an amazing day at The Highland Games with the sounds of bagpipes everywhere.

In Scotland getting to tour the towns, churches, Castles & museums. The sheep farm was very interesting. In London getting to go to the places we have always read about. Our guides were very knowledgeable. Our tour guide really helped make the trip & took care of trip changes in stride. Hope to join her group in another tour.

Some of the hotels were of lower standards from my previous travels with the company. The restaurants were just ok nothing special. On past trips there were more lunches offered and the evening meals were at better places with one very special dinner in a Mitch lawn star restaurant. The whiskey tasting was nice but the food was poor. You have lowered your standards so much. I will not be traveling with your company. Did you sell out to another company? I was very disappointed.

There were so many memorable moments on this tour from Glasgow through the Highlands to the North Sea to Edinburgh, but the visit to the sheep farm was educational and the Isle of Mull and Iona were beautiful. The Scottish people are so friendly as one told us that everyone has Scottish ancestors if you are from North America or Europe, so all are welcomed. The only nervous moments were passing trucks on the roads in the Highlands, talk about a tight squeeze, but our bus driver was amazing and our tour guide, Andy Parker, was excellent! Try this trip if you are thinking of doing a small group tour - 24 people.

The Edinburgh Military Tattoo made this trip a worthwhile visit. Otherwise, hotels were just average outside of Edinburgh. Food wasn’t particularly good compared to either England or Ireland. Tour guide did not provide any quiet time on longer rides. I was on two tours in April and May (France and Italy) with Collette which were much better all around.

The tour gave us a full sense of Scotland from its cities to the cloud shrouded Highlands which were my favorite. Picking out which artisan distillery Scotch whiskies to taste may be one of your challenges. And I'm still wondering who that doctor was. Here are a few photos.

Our most memorable experience was an ad hoc emergency services training manoeuvre whereby a Scottish Coast Guard rescue helicopter lowered onto, and later picked up an emergency responder from our tour boat at it sped along at top speed on the Moray Firth outside of Inverness. A once in a lifetime experience!

The tour itself was fantastic. I loved most of the locations we visited, especially Oban and the islands of Mull and Iona. I would have loved a little more time in Glasgow and Edinburgh. I felt the planned activities were great and I appreciated the opportunity to have some free time to explore on our own. Our Tour Manager, Andrew Hynde, was excellent. He kept us well informed and entertained with historical facts and witty stories. Our driver, Pat Quale, was excellent as well. He was professional, patient, and kind. The downside for me was in some of our accomodations. Our lodging in Glasgow and Edinburgh were modern and convenient to attractions. Loch Melfort was charming and relaxing. I loved that we were treated to three nights’ stay there. BUT our stays in Inverness and Dundee were disappointing. Our room in Inverness was down a labyrinthine hallway, past the pool, to an elevator or stairs which then took us back up to what felt like a room directly over the pool. It was unusually warm for May, but we could not get the window open enough to get a breeze. We tried placing the supplied desk fan in front of the window, but the cord wouldn’t reach. I had two very restless nights there. It’s a real shame, because the hotel is on the River Ness and a room that looked over the River would have been lovely. But our view was of a steeply pitched roof and a building behind that. Our room in Dundee was not much better. Supposedly a four star hotel, our room at the Landmark Dundee was cramped and shabby. The bed was uncomfortable and wallpaper was peeling away from the wall. For some reason an armchair was placed at the desk, so it was nearly impossible to move around it. The worst of it was that I saw a roach on the floor by my bed when I woke up. I’m really glad we only stayed there one night. My overall impression of the trip is favorable. I liked the small tour group. Our activities were interesting and well paced. What I expected to be a five star experience all the way only earns four stars, due the disappointing accomodations in those two locations. It’s enough to make me hesitate to use Collette as a tour company on a future trip. We’ll see.

Overall our tour was great. The tour manager Andrew and coach driver Pat were exceptional. The itinerary was well planned and paced (good locations with a nice amount of free time planned). Glasgow, Oban and Edinburgh accommodation's were perfect BUT two of our hotels were far below par. The sales literature stated "five handpicked accommodations". My instinct tells me the Inverness and Dundee hotels assigned many of our tour participants to the "cheap seats". We anticipated non air-conditioned rooms but rooms with radiators that would not turn off, windows that were difficult to open, worn out furniture and wallpaper separating from the wall were not what we had hoped for or assumed we were paying for. Perhaps Collette did not realize the customer's room assignments were less than desirable because the other locations were fantastic and exactly what we had hoped for. Planned meals were great. I would definitely inquire about hotel room assignments and upgrade rooms before i signed up for this tour again.
