On the anniversary of Canada’s confederation, all the usual traditions make a grand appearance: fireworks, pool party BBQs, beer and music.

So as we get ready to joyously remember that 1867 “moment” in style once again, we wanted to highlight some fun trivia about this spirited celebration!

  1. Canadians will drink about 1.2 million litres of beer on the July 1 holiday weekend. Canadians enjoy their beer, but the true Canada cocktail is the Bloody Caesar (Clamato juice, Worcestershire sauce, tabasco, vodka).

  3. Before it was Canada Day, July 1 was called Dominion Day. The name officially changed on October 27, 1982, but many patriotic Canadians had been calling it Canada Day all along. Interesting, eh?

  5. Apparently, Canadian adults typically spend more than $1 billion this year to celebrate the Great White North – and interestingly, millennials celebrate the holiday the most.

  7. Niagara Falls celebrates both Canada Day and The U.S.’s Independence Day with a fireworks celebration on July 1 and July 4 at 10pm in honour of the friendliness between the two neighbouring nations.

  8. Famous people born on Canada Day include Lady Diana, the Princess of Wales, Estee Lauder, Dan Akroyd, Pamela Anderson and Missy Elliot.
