Best Time for Travel Croatia & Its Islands Small Ship Cruising on the Adriatic Coast
While just about any month is great to visit Croatia, there are a few prime times of the year for the Croatia and Its Islands tour. Here are some recommendations from our destination experts.
Spring: March to June is one of the best times to visit Croatia. Enjoy many sunny days, ideal for walks, excursions, and even swimming by late spring. April is especially wonderful – perfect for those looking to explore places like Dubrovnik without the crowds.
Summer: If you opt to visit Croatia from June to September, you can expect plentiful sunshine, warm temperatures, and summer crowds. July and August are the most exciting times to visit as the weather is fantastic and the festival season is in full swing.
Fall: The absolute best time to visit Croatia is in autumn; when the crowds are smaller, the weather is ideal, and the sea is still a bit warm. October is perfect for outdoor activities and getting to know the locals who are more relaxed after the busy summer months. Fall is also the best time to visit Dubrovnik with smaller crowds.

Strongly suggest another hotel in Vodice, or frankly, go to the national park and then head to Zagreb. Too much time in Vodice!!!!! On another note, our tour guide Jegor, was excellent! He was knowledgable and made sure that all of our needs were met. He had excellent recommendations for dinner and his educational seminars while we were on the ship traveling were excellent! The ships crew were friendly and tried to meet our needs. The one issue that I had was the hot tub/jacuzzi was unusable most of the time. I wanted to use it at night or first thing in the morning and it was NEVER hot! I spoke to the ship staff and there were always excuses. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

The tour was marketed as a first class tour- The land accommodations were good , the boat was less than deluxe and a deal for Collette, It was nothing fancy like other boats and the food was average at best. Needed more coffee machines and there was no expresso machine. It was unexpected that no bottled water was provided for land tours (had to pay for water bottles) and you had to pay for non-alcoholic drinks (soft drinks) as well as alcoholic drinks. No hosted gatherings with pu pus and drinks. Could have provided Wine bottles on meal tables etc. Far from first class. The crew of the ship was most polite.
No accommodations were made for rain like it or lump it, we would have brought rain slickers that were packed away in the bus if knew, however the bus could have driven the first rain tour with the guide.
The bus rides were longer than expected and not set forth in the information. For me, setting out the anticipated time of each bus ride would have been invaluable as to my decision to take your tour. The length of each bus ride has been set forth on other tours I have taken. The best thing about the bus rides was the chosen bus driver who was excellent, and the rides were quite safe.
I suggest that the earphones be used on the bus which would have lessened needing to listen to questions and answers which I did not need to hear which droned on for a lengthy period of time (it was obvious that others felt that way too).
While we had weather issues which interfered with our itinerary., this is to be expected. Collette added a trip to Bosnia which I did not choose to go on and add the several hours plus of a bus ride for a meal, two customs stops and return was not satisfactory for me. So the only option was just to stay back and a wasted day (we made the most of it, but not because of Collette). No optional tour guide for the town was provide etc. Collette approved and set up the Bosnia trip and they could have also considered those of us that stayed behind.
We were not picked up as contracted for upon arrival and the first evening informational meeting was cancelled and that should have been our warning to just travel on our own. Then we were told we had to be on the bus the next morning at 8:30 am or we would be left, which was not correct.
To say the least this was not a fun trip, the itinerary had the potential to be a lasting memory. I have travelled a lot and would be happy to share with you my lasting memories from fantastic trips. The trip was not worth the money we paid or the value of the time we spent. I feel that Collette misrepresented the trip and that Collette owes us a full refund for the trip that I expect immediately.

Extremely disappointed in accommodations on the yacht. The cabin was hot even though had air turned cold and fan as high as possible. Very difficult to sleep because it was so hot. Only allowed ONE free drink with each meal provided. The one drink could be either soda, coffee or alcohol. If wanted any other drinks you would have to pay extra. As expensive this trip we should have been able to have unlimited drinks. The dining room barely had any air conditioning and at times doors had to be opened to get any air. Each meal provided you didn’t have any options to choose from. You either ate the one meal provided or nothing. For example, steamed octopus was the dinner option. We chose to eat off the boat that evening. Other guests who chose to stay told us later the octopus was rubbery and didn’t eat it. Croatia is beautiful but very hot and no air conditioning in stores and restaurants. Definitely do not recommend going in mid August! My favorite part of whole trip was The Blue Cave. Tour guide was extremely knowledgeable of the country, patient with everyone and friendly.

I loved walking trhrough the smaller cities, villages and fortresses (ie Korcula) exploring the narrow streets and stone steps. We climbed and walked every wall available and enjoyed the local beer at nearby cafes. Dubrovnik is the well known destination but the endless tourist shops lining every street off the main plazas took away from the beauty of this ancient area. The optional tour to Vis was another highlight. Our tour guide, Gorman(sp?) was the best. He was so knowledgable about the area and its' history and he kept us entertained with with some local humor, too. Our trip to the Blue Cave far exceeded our experience at the Blue Grotto in Capri. It was more relaxing and the guide was not rushed so we could really take in the beauty of the cave. Our tour guide Mirna was a delight. I would love to take another tour of the area to explore the northern islands with Mirna as our guide. We had a few very needy obnoxious members of the tour (who should not have signed up) that she handled with tact and patience. I am recommmending this tour to any that ask.

Too much down time. Most fun is what the people on the ship provided which was game night. Then we go complaints for being docked and having too loud of Music. Mind you, I was the youngest at 66 yrs old so the music couldn't be that loud, yet the Captain felt he had to storm up to deck and show his anger.

We had to purchase our own shampoo and room assignments were inaccurate as to bed configuration. There were also safety concerns as no evacuation procedures were noted in case of emergency.

The food on the boat was not good. There was only one choice at each meal. The accommodations for those with allergies were horrible. The staff would serve me items unsure if I could eat it. There needs to be at least another choice. Several other people did not eat seafood and there was no other option.
The ATV excursion was not that. It needs to be discontinued. We paid extra to do an off road excursion. Instead all of us were crammed into the back of covered trucks. It was 100 degrees outside. My truck broke down at the end of the road. We had to wait for a bus to come get us. My husband and I and the other 4 people should be refunded for that excursion.
Our flights were canceled on the return home. We made a claim to travelex. Travelex says Collette is responsible and Collette says deal with travelex. It has almost been one month and we have not received any compensation.
Lastly, in our brochure it was stated that there weee no baggage fees for single bags. Part of the group had to pay $75 per checked bag in San Diego. We were told we would be reimbursed as the Collette brochure stated differently and only some of the group was charged. We still have not received that money.

Tour manager was great. We spent 7 days/nights on a 41 meter boat with 18 cabins touring several islands. The boat was nice. The cabin on the boat was somewhat spartan but it had everything we needed. Food and service on the boat were not great. It wasn’t bad but I expected better food with more of a local vibe. Nope.
Our hotels were outstanding. The rooms were top tier. The food was great.
Ground transportation was excellent.
Locations we visited were really quite stunning. We visited several UNESCO sites. Very nice.
Croatian people were very welcoming.
Unfortunately, our air flights to and from Croatia were not great. Collette handled all of the flights. We did not have any flight information until 2-3 weeks before departure (on a trip booked a year in advance) so securing upgrades was difficult or not possible. Upgrading seats through Collette were extremely expensive…approximately 3 times the cost of upgrading seats on our own though the airline. We were fortunate to secure upgraded seats on the long flight to Munich. We were unable to secure any other seat upgrades although we did try. We could have purchased seat upgrades through Collette at a steep premium which would have added $10,000-$12,000 or more to the trip (which was under $7,000 per person).
The long layover on the way to Croatia were very challenging. 24+ hours of travel was unexpected and not fun. Having upgraded seats on the way over as a life saver. It took 3 flights to get home. Another 24+ hour travel day. For some reason, we were not seated together on the 2 long flights home. Also, on the final flight we seated separately in middle seats in the back of the plane. *** Collette?
So far, Collette has responded to our concerns regarding the flights and seats by saying it’s not their fault. It was one of their partners responsible for scheduling the flights and Collette had no control. Really poor form Collette! Due to our airline experiences we started and finished the trip with frustration and disappointment.
My advice would be to avoid Collette or, at the very least, schedule your own air travel. Collette really dropped the ball on flights/seating. I will not give them another opportunity to drop it again.

On the ship, ran out of toilet paper multiple times. They would not put extra rolls in the room. Had to ask for toilet paper each time. That is embarrassing. Tour manager chalked it up to a new person. At one point had to take extra toilet paper from restaurant back to the ship. Just in case.
I would suggest that you add $25 to each person so that bottle water can be unlimited. I did not appreciate that wait staff would question whether I had already got my one free bottle already. That is insulting.
We were slotted one drink per meal. By day two on ship ran out of Diet Coke or Coke Zero. And did not replenish until the last day when we were leaving the ship. Also asked to have hot tub warmed so it could be used. It never was turned on and never was able to use the hot tub. I felt like they did this on purpose so it was not used. Also try mixing up the food. Same salad for every meal. Same breakfast for 7 days. But the actual main dishes were good. This could have easily been a fantastic trip ( 5 stars) but the small things add up and impact the trip.

We should have spent more time in Zagreb. At least two days! Vodice hotel was terrible. Not near the town, restaurant service was horrible.

Boat experience was great but could have had 2 meals a day instead of 3. Krka park waterfalls were fantastic. All in all a very good tour.

The Yacht and crew were exceptional. The scenery was absolutely gorgeous! We loved swimming off the yacht in the Adriatic Sea. All of our local guides were informative and entertaining. Nasrin, our Croatian tour manager, was friendly, helpful, handled any ‘hiccup’, and became a friend to us all. We consider this trip one of our best!

Other than a room assignment disaster on the first day on boat, the tour was excellent.

I have been on many cruises and this, by far, was the worst. In the room the air conditioning was poor, the TV was intermittent as was the wifi. When we arrived, they couldn't find a key to the room. Then they couldn't find the key to the safe. Information provided by Collette was misleading, at best

It was a wonderful experience and the Crew on the ship was exceptional. From the Chef's cuisine to the Crew members who were so accommodating to all our needs, it made the trip memorable. Our tour manager was a doll and so informative and helpful with all our special requests and needs.
