Great historical sights and visits. Loved all the places we saw. Loved seeing Badlands National Park and was most impressed with Devil's Tower! The driver and our guides were all amazing. The cultural interactions were really nice, also. Only nitpick thing is that we would've liked a hotel closer to Downtown Rapid City.

Well planned and conducted tour. Good hotel for amenities. One hotel for all destinations was a plus, since there was no packing and unpacking after one or two night’s stay. As for location, the hotel was not very good for accessibility to shops or restaurants, the rides to downtown in the evening for those counterbalanced the deficiency. Tour Director, Joel was great. He had a wealth of information regarding the location and visited places. Our driver Sherry was helpful and had good knowledge of the direction. Overall this tour was superb.

I was asked 4 times about our travel, I sent all the requested information every time and did not get any confirmation that it was received or not. I called two day before our scheduled departure. I waited on hold for 20 minutes to speak to an agent. I find out a travel package was sent that we did not receive. We did not get the trip schedule, name tags or vouchers etc. We arrived at Rapid City, SD airport to discover the shuttle did not have our name listed to take us to hotel. The tour manager and bus driver were both excellent. The shuttle back to the airport after the tour was just as bad as our arrival

The tour was a bit on the busy side, but every stop was enjoyable except for Deadwood. I particularly enjoyed the Devil’s Tower and the Crazy Horse Memorial. Having heard about these sights for so long, it was great to see them in person. I was also appreciative of the Native American entertainment and museums. Deadwood, on the other hand, was very disappointing. The town looks nothing like an old Western town. It consists of bars with gambling casinos, gambling casinos on their own, and stores for shopping (although the items in the stores was varied and lovely as some compensation). The tour guide on the bus made political references that I did not appreciate and old sexist jokes that I found offensive.

The highlights of this trip were Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park and the Badlands. You are given ample time to explore on your own and lots of photo opportunities. I was only disappointed by two things. Our visit to Red Cloud School on the Pine Ridge Reservation was a total fail. Hostile stares because we were there during a funeral and the local history of the Sioux guide didn't show up. *Personal Details removed by Feefo* sensed things were not going well and substituted a visit to the Mammoth Dig which was wonderful. Last year the tour did the wild horse sanctuary instead and I vote they go back to that. The other item is Deadwood was basically casinos, bars and gift shops. Not much history left except for Cemetery. Also Collette puts Deadwood on a Sunday which is the only day they don't do the historical reenactments in the street. My personal preference is less shopping and more history. I did the optional excursion and would not do it again. Too much time at the Journey Museum and very bad service at the restaurant.

Rushmore and Custer Ntl Parks were the highlight with deadwood and Tatonka up there with them. I learned a lot of history I never knew about our country. They packed a lot of history and knowledge and scenery in very few days.. The hotel was beautiful and was very accommodating. We drove so we would have access to a vehicle to see anything around the area we might have missed or wanted to see more of. The hotel has a a shuttle for. Anyone without a vehicle. I loved the areas we toured and would do this tour again in order to see different aspects of each stop, plus I would like see a lot more of the Rapid City area. This was the first time we traveled with Collette. The 7 day/6 night tour, “Spotlight on South Dakota,” featured Mt. Rushmore, Devils Tower (in Wyoming), Badlands National Park, and much more. The itinerary was appealing because, in contrast to tours with multiple destinations linked by long, tedious motor coach rides between 1- or 2-night hotel stays, we would be headquartered in one centrally located spot with no more than a 2-hour drive to the various sites. The poor communication from Collette’s main office prior to the tour was unsettling. An invoice stating, "Please remit full payment no later than 17 Feb, 2025" was not received until March 7. An accompanying document included an alert that the names we had scribbled on our registration forms during a travel talk 5 months earlier had to exactly match the names on our Real ID cards. Unfortunately, Collette sent out this “reminder” AFTER they had purchased our airline tickets. I promptly submitted a minor correction. Well, imagine my outrage when they passed along an airline “name change fee” of $100.00. I disputed this ridiculous charge (and won). Many of our fellow tour participants were not experienced fliers. But beyond making our airline reservations, Collette offered not one iota of guidance – not even a useful web link – towards navigating online check-in, baggage, self-service kiosks, TSA, etc. Granted, every airport and airline has its own arcane modus operandi, but still … Nor was the Collette Compass app I installed on my smartphone useful. The itinerary was a mere copy of the printed documents previously mailed to tour participants. An accompanying list of restaurants and retail stores was woefully outdated; several had closed and others were inaccessible except by rideshare. Search engines (e.g. Google) provided far more concise and up-to-date info. Apart from the above ‘plaints, we truly enjoyed the tour. Our hotel, Hyatt Place, was centrally located in downtown Rapid City. Brand new and luxurious, it was within easy walking distance of multiple stores, restaurants, and other attractions. The activities and attractions included in the tour itinerary were generally well curated. At times, though, we felt rushed, especially at lunch stops. We surely could have stayed longer at Wall Drugs, Hill City and Custer … I’m certain most of our traveling companions would have been OK with returning to the hotel at 5:00 instead of 4:00. Also, after 3 days, multiple museums, displays and talks featuring the history and lore of South Dakota were becoming repetitive. Our tour included three dinners. A “welcome” dinner in a banquet room at a Best Western motel was catered by the adjoining Minervas Restaurant. A presentation by a native Lakota family was delightful but less so our meals, which arrived tepid and daintily portioned. In contrast, the food portions at the “farewell” dinner at Sabatino’s were hearty (but their kitchen was not so accommodating in meeting dietary restrictions). The chuckwagon supper and show at Ft. Hays – not included in the tour price – was better overall than the included chuckwagon supper and show at the High Plains Heritage Center located in Spearfish. Collette really ought to consider switching to Ft. Hays for future SD tours. We traveled between sites in a brand new motor coach, enjoying a wonderful driver who was not only punctual and friendly but also knew Rapid City backwards & forwards and shared some great suggestions (including the enjoyable evening at Ft. Hays). But I’ve saved the best for last, namely our tour manager Barry. He is the reason I rated my review 4 stars instead of 3. Never appearing stressed or impatient, Barry was unswervingly cheerful, polite, helpful, and an inspiring fountain of knowledge about the various sites we visited. When the weather turned sour, he got us to smile and laugh. In short, he was a great traveling companion and friend to every tour participant. We hope to travel with Barry again (and we hope Collette's HQ office gets their act together on communication and documents).

Wish we could have spent the afternoon in downtown Deadwood - would have enjoyed watching the staged reenactments since I'm an old TV western fan. Liked viewing Rushmore @ night, walking around Devil's Tower, & standing @ the almost geographic center of the earth. Despite damaged luggage enroute & delayed flight on the return, I truly enjoyed the trip. Weather was most cooperative, too - blue skies were brilliant!

The tour was a very interesting one. As named, it is a "spotlight" on the area. If you are interested in learning about some highlights of the area, this is the trip to take. However, if you are interested in spending longer periods of time on just a few areas, this is not the trip for you. Being from the East/Midwest areas, this was a true spotlight on the areas for us. Since we weren't sure if we'd be able to return, this hit the "spots" just right for us. There were several areas of interest for us, but I believe seeing the bison up close on the Jeep Safari trip was probably the best for us.

The entire tour was excellent, both the guide and bus driver did a wonderful job. The only down sides were a lack of stores/restaurants near the hotel and the air transportation. It originally had us flying from and returning to an airport that was 2 hours away from us as opposed to the airport that is 15 minutes away. Luckily we were able to switch to the closer airport but at an additional cost of $800.

Collette tours are outstanding. Never felt overly rushed. Accommodation were very good. The only place I would think about not returning to was Minerva’s Restaurant. The staff was great, but the 2 poor waitress had to serve the entire dinner for the whole tour group that night (May 17). Some of the food was not very good. My Sister-in-law had to send her food back to the kitchen, as did some other tour members. The apart from that, Lakota Culture Presentation was outstanding! Don’t lose that. This was the first time we used Collette and it won’t be the last. Haydee Schabelski, our tour guide, was outstanding. She was very attentive to our needs and very responsive. She was so attentive to minute details that she scheduled us to visit Mt. Rushmore in the morning so that the sun would be to our backs. That is really attention to detail. I asked Haydee about your overseas tours. She indicated she has never done a Collette overseas tour, but would love to do one. Hint, Hint Collette. Why not send her on an overseas tour if she wishes to work one? I know my wife and I will seriously be considering a Collette overseas tour. The whole tour was great. For me, the Tatanka tour was especially good. I also truly truly enjoyed the Lakota Culture Presentation and the Oglala Lakota Village. One last person that should not be neglected was Sherrie, our bus drive. She was great and a lot of fun. Kudos to Sherrie. And, by the way, the Coach we had was brand new! Sorry if I can’t think of one thing over another. Russell and Cynthia Griffin PS. The farewell dinner at the restaurant (don’t remember the name) was outstanding. Since they did not offer a linguine or similar dish, I ordered the Lasagna. I am not a big Lasagna fan, but I did try it. It was outstanding!!!! It would order their Lasagna again, any time. And, their wine selection was tremendous!

It’s a draw between Tatanka Story of the Bison and Crazy Horse. Tatanka was very informative, how which parts of the animal was used for what purpose. And the sculpture out back was fantastic. I purchased a hoodie from them along with a small replica of Tatanka and a refrigerator magnet. And the work on Crazy Horse Monument is impressive from the last time I saw it. Glad it is 501c3 with no federal monies accepted. Their complex really brings in the tourists. I purchased a refrigerator magnet and left, I believe, a generous donation.

Our tour manager was very knowledgeable and provided extra insight to attractions by sharing interesting facts and videos on the bus before we arrived at each destination. We were able to see a lot in six days and the bus was comfortable--our rides never seemed long. The jeep safari tour through Custer State Park was a highlight--we were able to see lots of bison, pronghorn, prairie dogs, and other animals. I loved the locals' appreciation of art--from the sculptures at Rushmore and Crazy Horse, to presidential sculptures in Rapid City, and murals and sculptures at restaurants and other attractions. I recommend this trip to anyone who wants to visit Mount Rushmore, Badlands, Crazy Horse Memorial, Devils Tower, and Deadwood and who wants to celebrate Native American culture.

Also appreciated the limo service to/from airport. The Bad Lands were probably the most interesting to see. Also enjoyed a few dinners by ourselves. It was nice that the hotel had van service to/from town on the nights we were on our own. Probably would have liked a little more free time to explore Rapid City, but till got to see most of it.

No safe place to take a walk, in fact there wasn't anything interesting to walk to. A downtown hotel accommodation would have been a better choice The hotel we stayed at Garden Inn Hilton was average, breakfast OK, the cleaning group left a lot to be desired. They did not clean our room after the first night, in fact the tour director had to step in to get that resolved, which it was.

I think the structure of the tour was Awsome. We were on the road every day and onto a new adventure. Mt.
