We loved the smaller group and focus on small hillside towns! Highlights include the visit to the olive oil farm, Carletti, where the intimate setting was marvelous as was the olive oil. The cooking class in Vallo di Nera was a lot of fun and laughs. The small town is worth walking around too. The meal at a home near Bevagna was spectacular! What an idealistic home and place to live! The small towns and history the represent was also fabulous like the fortress town of Monteriggioni. Assisi and its history, cathedral are amazing and inspiring. Saint Francis is fascinating as he didn't start off as such a nice young man, but he certainly grew into a very special person. Learning of the painter Giotto who painted fresco's in the Assisi cathedral and was also the architect of the Florence bell town was beyond description. We also made some very nice and fun trip friends, Mary and Nancy, who made the trip more enjoyable with many laughs. Our tour manager was exceptional, *Personal details removed by Feefo*, and in addition to his tour management capabilities, he can sing beautifully. The weather during our tour was cooler than I expected so it's a reminder to be very prepared for expended cold weather or it could have gotten warm and Italy mandates no A/C until 6/1. The Tuscan Umbrian countryside was fantastic. I shared a room with a friend. I wish I had my own room. The tour was very rigorous. I wish we had some downtime. We were up early, and on the bus by eight or 9 AM going all day long. Back to our hotel by three or 4 PM. It was very rigorous and sometimes exhausting, lots of walking on hard cobblestone brick like roads. The tour manager was very generous and informative. She did a great job. Her name is Sibi.
I would not do this rigorous tour again. I would look something that was more relaxed and easy-going. I did see a lot of things I would’ve never seen before, but I was very tired at the end of the day. Collette was very organized, though I have to say the door-to-door limousine driver was excellent. I just think for my age at 70 years old it was a little bit too scheduled. Overall, the flights were great and everything went very efficiently.
I appreciate seeing the little towns and hearing about all the history, like I’ve said over and over I wish we had a little more downtime. thank you, Collette. The Pros:
The Tuscan and Umbrian tour was fabulous! The Tour Manager (Giulio) and Driver (Carmine) were both amazing and made the tour even better. Loved visiting the small towns most of all and taking in the beautiful countryside. We had a fantastic time in Italy! The excursions were wonderful and informative, the food was great and the local tour guides were wonderful. Highly recommend this tour!
The Cons:
There were quite a few pre-tour changes made by Collette that affected and greatly increased the cost of the trip, changes to the flights/seating upgrades, a charge for airport transportation when the brochure and the in person presentation we attended stated that this was included, and one of the scheduled activities on the Rome extension was cancelled with no alternative planned or suggested for us. Very disappointing for us since we had paid for the Rome extension and were expecting to have a group tour of the highlights of Rome and that did not happen. So, for us, the cost of the Rome extension was not worth it for a Walking Food Tour (which was great!) and 2 nights in a hotel.
Our friend's luggage was lost for 2 1/2 days, and Collette was not very helpful or proactive in finding out where it was and getting it to them. Our friend had to go back to the airport himself to try to get it resolved.
Not enough layover time was scheduled on the way home for us to go through customs, security and recheck luggage, etc., and we missed our flight home and had to spend the night in Dallas. The airline employees even mentioned that the layover time was not enough. Not a good end to a great trip.
The tour was great, but dealing with Collette regarding the price increase, the changes and lack of communication was not. The local contact was no help at all, not proactive and not a great communicator and did not seem at all sympathetic to the changes being made and the increase in the cost of the trip.
This was our first tour, and while we were thrilled with the actual tour, we were very disappointed with all of the pre tour changes/increases/communication and the post tour flight issues.

The tour was absolutely as promised - balance of hands on experiences & visiting historical sites with free time, great accommodations with stays of 2-3 nights. Excellent tour manager & top notch driver. All details covered - appreciated door to door service!Hard to name only 1 thing - but highlight was our meal prepared in an Italian family’s home - best meal, awesome setting & such gracious & welcoming hosts. Tour manager was excellent. Only thing I would have wished differently was better AC, but realize it is not necessarily important in Italy the way it is in the US.

Other than our flights which, in one case were booked too closely and we missed our connection (and I HAVE YET ago hear back from Collette), and on the way home the trip was WAY TOO LONG). The rest of the trip was great! I loved visiting the small villages with a city or two peppered in.

This was of the best tours I have taken. From the minute we met our tour guide Siblia I knew my friend and I were going to have a fantastic time. All the hotels, the tours, the people on our tour and the people that we met, to the bus driver Luigi and the local guides it was a win win tour. No wonder Collette is celebrating 100 years in the travel business. Happy Birthday Collette and thank you for a wonderful trip.

Read our review. We were an English speaking group and our Collette guide seemed to ignore that fact, so did the bus driver.
The countryside was beautiful and the 1st wine tasting was nice. The 2nd was unacceptable.
Florence and Assisi are beautiful places.
Local guides were ok but seemed to think the only thing we wanted to see were churches!
The home hosted lunch was very nice.

We recommend this tour and Collette.

A very well planned tour with a varied itinerary. Nice pace. Wonderful guides. Excellent hotels. It may have been luck that the group was small and particularly congenial. The entire experience was delightful. My favourite part was the stay in Umbria where we stayed in lovely Spoleto and visited places I doubt many tourists find.
