Working to fight global hunger is a part of who we are here at Collette. As we wrapped up our initiative to provide one million meals to those in need by our 100th anniversary, we had already met our goal. Read on to learn about why fighting hunger is so important to us and how our travelers were able to join us in making an impact.

A few facts about hunger

Hunger is a very real issue, both across the world and in your local community.

  • 842 million people in the world don't get the food they need to live a healthy life. - 2017 FAO Stats
  • 66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry across the developing world. - World Food Programme
  • Malnutrition in all its forms - from wasting to obesity - directly affects one in three people. - 2016 Global Nutrition Project

With these statistics in mind, ending world hunger seems like an insurmountable task, but it is actually possible in our lifetime. One way we contribute to this effort is through partnerships with organizations like Rise Against Hunger who are helping the hungry all over the world.

How our guests helped

Postcard Grouped 2

Since we knew our guests would want to support our efforts, we asked them to send Rise Against Hunger a postcard from their travels describing why ending world hunger is important to them. For each postcard they sent, we agreed to donate one meal.

The results

Our guests jumped into action, sending 1,300 postcards from 15 different countries and 12 U.S. cities. One guest even sent over 250 postcards! We were so touched by all of the messages from our wonderful travelers who took the time to send love from all corners of the globe.

Here are a few of our favorites

Postcard 4

As we travel this world and watch the news, I become more and more aware of how many people struggle with poverty and hunger compared to the few who have so much. Just because of where and to whom I was born I have been so fortunate. We must all do what we can!

Postcard 3

I want everyone in the world to have a chance for a fair start without the worry of where their next meal comes from.

Postcard 1

Making sure all people have food to eat is SO important. We who have so much should do all we can to help others who struggle to survive.

Postcard 2

Thank you for your wonderful project of feeding the hungry. As a mother and former first grade teacher, there is nothing more important than children with full stomachs making it easier to learn and enjoy school. Healthy nutrition is a top priority. Thank you for your fantastic program.

Thank you to all of our guests who participated in Postcards for Hunger. Be on the lookout for more opportunities to join us in ending world hunger. Together, we can make a big impact.
