Hotels not centrally located. The towns we stayed the towns we stayed in were summer resorts. There was nothing going on at night. We were dumped in downtown Lisbon for two hours. We were given the choice of taking a train back late at night. So we would have the opportunity to stumble around some foreign country at night, trying to find the hotel, several of the people on the tours were just hanging out in the bars in the hotel. This is not exactly a cultural experience.

Collette would be wise to upgrade the ability of the folks that answer the phone to see the entire package and certificates of the customer. Post trip Collette would be wise to help customer with any and all issues with the airlines. After all Collette did sell them the ticket. The tour design included a wide array of activities and sights in southern Portugal. As a first time visitor to the country, I felt the tour covered a vast array of Portugal’s rich history and culture. Juan, the tour manager was very knowledgeable and quickly understood the group’s tendencies. His restaurant suggestions were very helpful. Fernando, our driver was exceptional. The hotel accommodations were lacking at times with basics such as washcloths and facial tissue unavailable. Overall, the tour is a good value and a wonderful introduction to Portugal.

I was pleased with most of the trip. I have been to Lisbon before and know that we saw very little because it was a Monday. Too bad since I will never get back there. I thought everything else was wonderful until we tried to go to Madeira. No one can control the weather but it was such an exhausting experience and I cannot eat airport food . That being said, I do not feel we were treated with compassion by Collette and it was a lot of money to spend for just over a day on Madeira where we missed a lot of things promised and which I will also never see again. I believe it could have been handled better and of course affects my thinking about future trips.

The only reason I did not rate this higher was for two reasons: 1: The meal we had at the culinary school was awful. No one ate this corn portage and shrimp that had head, eyes, and rest of the body laying in the center of the bowl. This was a waste of money. 2: The hotels were nice but in two of these the air conditioning did not work so it was hard to sleep when it was hot and stuffy in the room. One of these were in a 3-night stay so for the whole 3 nights it was hot. We told the hotel and also our tour guide but it was never fixed.

He also explained the social issues such as the educational system and the medical systems in Portugal. We found these things very interesting. His recommendation on the local foods were spot on, especially the sweets. Collette's Covid testing in the hotels was really appreciated and the cost was quite reasonable. This was our second trip to Portugal and our 12th trip with Collette. We can't wait to go again, this time, back to Germany or Greece.

Collett always makes things run so smooth with all tours. They keep you moving and give you breaks as you desire from shopping, eating, or napping. Most of the motels are top 5 motels. The restaurants are outstanding from a steak house to a little ma and pa restaurant they all are outstanding. They have such talented bus drivers you wonder how did he just make that turn with just inches. The tour managers are outstanding they have so much knowledge in their brains but they are so down to earth, so kind. Sometimes the airports can be a big challenge but they try to make it a good trip. I have been on about 13 tours and they have all been wonderful. Where can I go next let me think 🤔

I'm a seasoned traveler and this was a disappointing tour. We stayed in beautiful accommodations in lovely areas, but they were far from the places we were visiting, which was a huge limiting factor in the tour experience because there was no transportation into town from the hotels (e.g., hotel van), and it required taking a cab (an additional expense) to further explore the town. There were many sites in town I would have enjoyed seeing, but they were missed because of our location. This is the first time I've experienced such an ill-planned location...disappointing! A wine tasting was included in our tour. We did taste wine, but it doesn't meet the definition of a wine tasting where one learns abut the wine, visits the cellar, hears about the experience of growing and harvesting the grapes, and tastes the wines. Our server didn't appear to speak English, and just poured wine into our glasses. It was nothing special or noteworthy. Tour involved many hours riding on the bus. Positives - I enjoyed some delicious meals, wine, and desserts. Portugal is beautiful, the history is amazing, and the people were very nice! Sintra was my favorite...I wish we had spent more time exploring it!

Walking the streets of historic neighborhoods in Lisbon was interesting and fun. Learned a lot about Portugal's history and a thing or two about fine wines. The only negative was missing our connecting flight at the Paris airport on the way back home, due to long lines, both at Passport Control and the shuttle between terminals, that weren't well-managed. Lots of other people there had the same problem. In the future I would plan on booking at least 3 hours between connecting flights at that airport.

We spent way too much time on the bus, the isolated hotels kept us from exploring locally. Which caused more time on the bus. We weren't able to go into some locations because we were stuck in traffic due to the hotel locations. We would get to a site to find out it was lunch and shops were closed and since we had less time at the site than lunch hour we had to get back to the bus. I've sent a letter to you because I have been so annoyed over what I thought would be a wonderful experience and was just a waste of money. What's the point of coming all the way to Portugal and spending most of the time on a bus. The tile factory, the winery and the cork factories were the one thing that I did .enjoy. Not interacting locally with the people made me fell like I have no idea who the Portuguese are. Why the coach museum, why not a history museum? What ever Gabriela told us was the only cultural experience we had. I can honestly say I'm angry over the experience.

Once we were in Portugal, the locations we visited, food and our tour guide were great. That part of the trip was very enjoyable. The hotel chain that we stayed at was not great La Villa Gala I believe - the service of the staff and housekeeping was not accommodating, the walls of their hotels were like paper and you could hear everything above, below and around you, and at the winery location, the rugs on the tiled floor had no grip at all under them and when you step on them they would slide out from under you - I almost fell a couple of times and I know of someone else in our group that actually did fall in the middle of the night.

Although the hotels were just average, they were located in excellent spots and that was important. The pace of the tour was quite demanding, but we did see a lot.

Going to Portugal was a memorable experience in itself. The places we visited, our experiences were all memorable. It was a trip that permitted us to get a much better idea of the people and the country that began to explore the unknown areas of the world and expand trade, culture, and bring the unknown areas and people of the world to Portugal. What an exciting country to explore.

My favorite part of the tour was the visits to the family owned businesses of cork, gin, pottery and tile making. I loved the mountain town of Monchique. My free time to walk on a beach was really terrific. I particularly liked the group of people I was with too. My advice, tho, would be to stay away from the touristy areas like Sinatra and Obidos. Nice places but overrun with tourists and souvenir shops.

Seeing a few churches and old forts or castles was fine but they were a bit too many. Sardine factory was interesting and hearing FADA music was good. Food was my biggest issue. We were a large group (38) but things went smoothly. Pick -up, drive through rush-hour traffic, and transfer on to plane went well. The hotel the first night was great, wonderful towels, bathroom, beds - all welcome after flying all night. The other 3 hotels were good for large groups but not as nice as far as bathrooms/towels, but they did have pools with outside bars and several choices for dinner ie pizza, buffet. Best night was a night of Fado music and dinner. It was a great way to start the trip. All day tours of Lisbon, winery, distillery, medieval town, cork factory, tile shop, were fun, full of history. Trip home started a bit confused at the airport in Lisbon but otherwise went well.

Collette did a superb job! Jose, our tour guide, was knowledgeable and accommodating - he was especially conscious of my friend’s motion sickness and kept us seated in the first three rows on the bus. Our hotels were all very nice, especially Vila Gale Lagos. We had plenty of time to rest and more than enough time to shop!!! Our favorite tours were of the cork factory and the sardine museum. I was upset that Collette changed the dates of our tour to the beginning of March. It is widely known that the beginning of March in Portugal is cold and rainy! Well, the weather was horrific! It down poured all the time, the winds were so strong most stops we could not enjoy the sites! We were wet, cold, miserable. There was just NO way we could dress for this constant down-pouring of rain! Some of our tours could not be seen because of the clouds, mist fog ect. So, many places were closed too! This was disappointing! We spent full days on the bus to see nothing. João was excellent! He was so Knowledgeable of his beloved Portugal! He provided a personalized experience, although I wish the walking tours were a little shorter so we could have more free time to wonder through the wonderful little towns. The tour organizer from Michigan, representing Grand Traverse Senior Center, Julie Kitner, was horrible! She stuck to her little group friends. She did not pass along information to everyone as the tour was changing all the time, so there was a lot of confusion. She also refused to give us a tip envelop (when we asked for one) after she passed them out to everyone else! She promoted a gang mentality amongst the travelers, encouraging rude behavior. Most individuals refused to get involved but it affected everyone on the trip! Just horrible!!

Maderia hotel was old too. Don’t always take tour groups to small family owned businesses because they don’t ship their products so if we like the product we can’t bring some home. They are hurting their own selves as well as frustrating their customers. The biggest disappointment was that we were being brought to areas/churches/monasteries where we looked at them from the outside and didn't go in. The group was too large and would never do a group that large again. Not enough cultural visits such as museums. The accommodations were okay in the beginning and became better when we stayed in the Algrave. Breakfast was fine with lunches and dinners being just slightly better than cafeteria food (made for the masses not for culinary delight).

Rita the tour guide was the best. She knew everything. On the cork tour I would have liked to see how they make the finished Product. The bath tubs in all the hotels were dangerously slippy and or high. Fear of falling took over when we showered. Overall it was a great trip. Would have liked to spend more time on a boat cruising the shoreline. Meals were great. I would recommend this tour and Rita to anyone.

Good experiences visiting the winery, gin and cork facilities. The tours in the various towns were enlightening. I found information about Portugal presented by the tour guide on the bus rides to be informative, descriptive and enlightening. I knew very little about Portugal before the trip but have acquired an appreciation for Portugal, its history, people and countryside. The tour guide was exceptional made this tour everything it could be. She was certainly an ambassador for Portugal.

Hiking the cliffs of the Algarve Coast was magnificent as well as taking the boat ride into the caves along the cliffs. And I loved visiting the cork factory and learned all about the wonderful cork oak tree. Also loved our extension to Madeira Island where we visited the botanical gardens, rode down a steep hill in a wicker basket, saw giant waves on the north shore hiked along the levadas and had a great dinner with traditional singing and dancing. What a way to end a marvelous trip!

His knowledge of the history and the culture as well as his organizational skills was amazing! The food at the restaurants was good and they never stopped pouring wine. The cork factory, the gin distillery, the maker, and the hand painted tile company very much enriched our experience. All the transports worked very well! It was a fabulous trip.

Other than doing a Viking river tour I have never been on a travel tour. I have always planned my own international vacations and researched and booked my own hotels, sites, etc.. Not only was Colette so easy, but our tour guides were wonderful in particular, MARIA Pacheco. My only criticism would be that some of the hotels had very deep tubs, making it difficult for senior citizens to get in and out of them safely. In addition the hotel in Madeira was situated close to where the cruise ships came in and you could hear them all night and in the mornings their Soundsystem could be heard early in the morning. I would also say that particular hotel is a little tired. My favorite hotel was the one where we stayed in Porto. The staff there was excellent and it is a smaller boutique style hotel. I was so impressed with the tour that I am considering signing up for a Collette tour in 2025 to take my sister to Italy. I have been to Italy many times on my own but I think this would be a good option to introduce her to Italy.

Sintra and Obidos were amazing! But we rushed and saw them both in one day. Portugal is a beautiful place, but we spent too much time indoors. We saw a cooking demonstration, a winery, a distillery, a tile manufacturer, and a cork factory. While these were well presented, I would rather have spent the time seeing the beauty in Portugal. I felt that we missed a lot of amazing things to watch manufacturing processes. The tour guide was great, the food excellent.
